SWEET CAROLINE

-

You sat on the couch in you and Torey's shared apartment, watching the Red Sox game as you pet your dog, Fenway, who was curled up on your lap. This was a normal sight on any given night. You loved the Red Sox and you loved your dog just as much.

At the sound of the door opening, Fenway jumped off your lap, running towards it. You smiled: Torey was home. Getting up off the couch, you walked down the hallway and into the entryway. Torey was crouched on the ground, petting Fenway as he jumped onto him.

He stood up, Fenway still following him closely as he walked over to you, giving you a kiss. "I have a surprise for you," he told you.

You raised an eyebrow at him. "I thought you were getting groceries," you said.

"I was," he said, grabbing a few of the bags and bringing them into the kitchen. You grabbed the remaining bags and carried them in.

"So, what's the surprise?" you questioned as you sat down on one of the stools, leaning onto the kitchen counter.

"Wouldn't be a surprise if I told you right now," he said, turning to the fridge to put some of the groceries in.

"You're no fun," you said, frowning playfully.

"You're going to love it," he said, "trust me."

Once he had put everything away, you moved to the couch. Torey sat down next to you and Fenway curled up on the pillow beside you. You checked the score on the screen, which was in favor of the Red Sox, before looking over at Torey.

"So..." you said, smiling at him.

"Alright, alright," he muttered, pulling out an envelope and handing it to you. "Open it."

You took it from his hands before messily ripping it open. He chuckled as you pulled out what was inside; two Red Sox tickets.

You stared at him, your mouth dropping open. He smiled brightly, knowing you loved his surprise. You had been bothering him about going to Fenway Park, and you were finally able to go.

"I love you so much," you said, putting the tickets down and hugging him tightly.

He laughed. "I love you, too."

A few longs weeks later, it was finally the day you and Torey were going to the game. You showed up at around 4 P.M. for the 7 P.M. game that night, so you were one of the first people in the ballpark.

You made your way to your front row seats, which were along the first base side of the field. You rested your hands on top of the home dugout as you watched the opposing team, the Los Angeles Angels, take batting practice.

Eventually, many of the Red Sox players came out to warm up for the game. Much to your excitement, Chris Sale was starting that night, and you were enjoying watching him warm up. At one point, Mookie Betts, who Torey had claimed helped him get the tickets, waved to you. You smiled and waved back: Mookie was one of your favorite players.

By the seventh inning, the Red Sox were up 5-0. You sang along with the rest of the crowd to 'Sweet Caroline,' simultaneously trying to get Torey to sing, though he refused.

After the song was over, you turned to Torey, only to find that he wasn't there. You looked down to see him kneeling and holding a small box with a ring inside.

"(Your Name), will you marry me?"

You could only nod your head yes.
