OVERREACTION

-

"Whatever. Do what you want. I need a break from this," Adam said before storming out the front door. You tried to run after him but the door had already closed and you were left to lean into it, sobbing loudly.

You weren't really sure how a small argument with your boyfriend, Adam Burish, had escalated this quickly. You couldn't even really remember what you had said to make him so mad, but he was furious. He didn't yell at you - he never had - but you were sure he had been pretty close.

You pushed off the door, walking to the phone. You were in Adam's apartment and you wanted to get out as quickly as possible in case he came back anytime soon. You dialed your friend's number.

"Hello?" she called.

"I'm coming to your house," you said, sniffling. "It's Adam."

"Okay."

You hung up, grabbing your things before leaving. You put them in your car before getting in the driver's seat, sighing heavily. You put the keys in the ignition before driving away.

-

You walked into the kitchen of (Friend's Name)'s house, leaning against the counter and you rubbed your eye, yawning. She glanced over at you, chuckling.

"Nice hair," she complimented.

"Thanks," you said, not in the mood to joke. Adam had left you just yesterday and it hurt more than anything.

"How are you?" she asked.

"About as good as you'd think I would be," you answered.

Before she could say anything else, your phone, which was on the counter, rang. You walked over to it, finding that it was a call from Bryan Bickell, one of Adam's teammates. You looked over at (Friend's Name) before hesitantly picking your phone up and answering it.

"Hey, Bryan," you greeted.

"Hey," he greeted as if nothing was wrong.

"What's up?"

"Well," he paused. "It's about Adam."

You sighed. "I thought so."

"He's here right now. He came over after he stormed out," Bryan told you. "He's a mess. He was crying when he first got here." You sighed. "He's really sorry, (Your Name). He misunderstood and got mad for no reason."

"I don't know if I'm ready to talk to him," you said.

"I understand," he said. "Adam says to meet him at his apartment when you're ready. He just wants to talk."

"Alright. Thank you, Bryan."

"Of course."

You hung up, putting your phone down at looking over at (Friend's Name).

"Was that aboutー"

"Yep. He wants me to meet him at his apartment when I'm ready to talk," you told her.

"Are you?"

You sighed. "Honestly, I don't know."

-

(Friend's Name) convinced you to talk to him the next morning. You took a shower before putting on the clothes she had let you borrow. You were trying to stall as much as possible, as you were scared of what was going to happen when you arrived at Adam's house.

"You're going to be fine, (Your Name). Adam's a good guy. I'm sure you two will figure it out," (Friend's Name) said as you put your shoes on to leave.

"I hope so," you said, standing up. "Thanks for everything, (Your Name)."

"Anything for you."

When you arrived at Adam's house, you stood on the front porch for at least two minutes before actually knocking on the door. You were terrified of what was going to happen.

Your heart practically stopped when Adam opened the door. He looked horrible; his hair was a mess and his eyes were red. You stood and stared at each other for a moment before he walked towards you, hugging you tightly.

"I'm so, so sorry."
