You tapped your fingers on your seat nervously, looking out onto the ice. You were at Staples Center, waiting for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup, which the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers were facing off in. You were there to support your husband, Jeff Carter, and the rest of the Los Angeles Kings. However, he had no clue you were there.

You had been in the army for almost all of your relationship. You were gone a lot of the time, but somehow you made it work. For the entirety of the Stanley Cup Finals, you were in Iraq, and as far as Jeff knew, you were still there. However, your mission had been completed early and you were sent home.

So, you took this opportunity to surprise him. The Kings had a chance to win the Stanley Cup, so you figured it would be the perfect time. But, win or lose, you hoped he would be happy with your surprise. A win would make it a little more memorable, though.

Your phone went off and you looked down, seeing a text from your friend.

(FRIEND'S NAME)
you nervous?

KAYLA really nervous

KAYLA   
what if they lose?

even if they do, they'll still be up 3-2

and jeff is going to be happy to see you no matter what

i know, but

you have nothing to worry about. trust me.

You sighed. She was right; everything was going to fine.

The Kings scored the first goal of the game, but the Rangers answered back with two goals in the second period, taking a 2-1 lead. You were practically shaking with nervousness during the third period. They needed to score. However, your prayers were answered around 7 minutes in when the Kings tied it up.

Soon enough, the third period was over, leaving the game tied 2-2. It took two incredibly stressful overtime periods for either of the teams to score. Luckily, it was the Kings.

They had won the Stanley Cup.

You stood there, staring out onto the ice as the team piled on top of each other. Your hands were glued to your face as you watched, tears falling down your face. They had actually done it.

It seemed like a long wait until you could see Jeff on the ice. You watched as he greeted his family, hugging them as they congratulated him. As you walked up behind him, you could hear him say, "I just wish Kayla was here, too."

His mom glanced behind him, looking at you with wide eyes. She had known about the situation, too. "Jeff, I would turn around."

He turned around slowly, freezing when he saw you. You smiled at him, tears welling in your eyes again. He stepped towards you before wrapping his arms around you. He was trembling; whether it was from nervousness or shock, you didn't know.

"I am so, so proud of you."
