A sigh escaped Tyler's lips as he walked into the oddly quiet building, shoving his hands in his pockets. He had always hated hospitals, especially now that his grandmother had been in one for weeks. He had visited her every day that he was home in Dallas, and he was completely sick of it.

Hospitals put a sour taste in Tyler's mouth, and he was sure that he wasn't the only one. They only reminded him of his various hockey injuries, most of which he didn't really want to remember at all. Injuries were never fun, especially for professional hockey players.

"Hey, Grandma," he greeted softly, stepping into her room. Her roommate had moved into the room recently, so Tyler was doing his best to keep quiet.

His grandmother smiled when she saw him. "Hi, honey."

The two talked for a while. As sickly as Tyler's grandmother looked, she always had a smile on her face and tried her best to talk to him ask much as she could. He was amazed at how much willpower she had. If he had terminal cancer like her, he would have given up long before now.

Eventually, a nurse walked in, interrupting their conversation. "Nice to see you again, Tyler," she greeted.

He smiled gently. "You, too."

"I'm going to give your grandmother her medicine, so if you could step out of the room for a moment, that would be great," she informed.

"Yeah, of course," he replied, getting up and stepping out of the room.

He wandered down the hallway, eventually winding up at one of the visiting rooms. It was somewhat of an entertainment center and had bookshelves filled with books and magazines, a TV, and some puzzles, among other things. Tyler noticed a girl who looked to be about his age, who was sitting at one of the tables with a half-finished puzzle in front of her.

Tyler stepped inside, the girl looking up at him for a moment before looking back down at her puzzle. He looked around for a moment before deciding to join her. He was awful at puzzles, but why not? He probably wouldn't be there for long, anyway.

"Need any help with that?" he questioned, sitting down in the wooden chair across from her.

"Um, yeah," she replied, chuckling a bit. "That'd be great."

"Alright," he replied, looking down at the puzzle in front of them. It appeared to be a farm scene of some sort. Tyler couldn't really tell. "Just so you know, I'm awful at this."

"Oh, don't worry, I am, too," she assured, glancing up at him for a moment. "It just gets my mind off of things."

Tyler nodded, understanding what she meant. "I know the feeling. Who are you visiting?"

She looked up at him with wide eyes for a moment before gaining her composure. "No one. I, uh, I live here, I guess."

"Oh god, I'm so sorry, I just assumed," he blurted, embarrassed that he had probably hurt her feelings.

She just smiled. "No problem. I get it a lot. I'm Alex."

Tyler smiled back. "Tyler."

Maybe hospitals weren't so bad.
