I knew Dad would come find me soon, that I wast a top suspect now and that he'd be furious. He wouldn't let this one go, so I went down to the lake in the park. It was the first place I took her, the first date we ever went on.
Her eyes sparkled that night. She was only wearing a sweater and leggings, but I thought she was beautiful just the way she was. Her nose was rosy and her pale skin glowed.
"Why are you staring at me?" She mumbled.
"Cause you're really beautiful," I had replied, keeping my charm up and my obvious nervousness down. She only rolled her eyes.
"Did you get that one from a movie?" She groaned.
"No I'm too manly to watch romance
movies," I exclaimed. She laughed and rose her eyebrows at me. "I think it was The Notebook." She laughed and I was growing to fall in love with her laugh.
"Well if you're gonna stare you might as well make a move," she persuaded.
I leaned in a little and she met me the rest of the way. At first, my lips went limp, letting hers do all of the moving, but then they started moving in sync.
The memory stung to think about. I looked to my feet, expecting to see her looking back up at me, eyes melting into mine and picking at her sweater so slightly she thought I'd never notice. I was greeted by only a muddy floor.
I knew then that I'd see her and Hannah very soon.
