"Hey baby,"I called from downstairs.I always knew I was welcome in the Standall home, his dad knew mine (they worked together) so Alex and I have known each other since....forever. Eight months ago he asked me out and I happily said yes, knowing Alex would treat me well. All of our parents accepted our relationship and his dad said I would be able to come over anytime I wanted, but he'd watch Alex and I.
His dad wasn't home so I assumed he was probably in his dad's room. He always went in there when his dad wasn't home, he liked to look through files and that room had better air conditioning. I slumped my backpack at the front door hearing it crash to the floor with a loud thud. Two textbooks and four binders, I thought to myself as I slipped off my beaten up, black converse.
I was wearing neon, mix match socks that Alex had bought me when I was like twelve, but my feet hadn't grown and they were still in pretty good condition, so I wore them on the regular. I slipped up the stairs and was thinking of ways to scare him. We had this competition where we'd scare each other as many times as we could. His dad eventually stopped running in with a gun at the sound of a scream.
That's when I heard it. For a second I had no idea what it was. It was so muffled and something was rattling over it, but it was coming from Alex's room, so I turned the corner and walked over there. When I pressed my ear to the door I expected to hear low music, humming and slight shuffling but this time I heard moaning and something slamming against a wall.
I knew exactly what it was the second I heard it. Tears burned in my eyes and my knees started shaking badly. I thought he loved me and I thought we were good for each other. We said I love you all the time, we kissed, we were good....we were perfect.
I pounded on the door and heard a low shit shit indeed, Alex Standall. Shuffling started and a low whisper directing someone. The door unlocked and an Alex Standall only wearing his wrinkled boxers stepped out.
"Oh hey, girly," he mumbled.
"Oh hey, you don't have a girlfriend anymore," I trembled, running out of the house with my shoes and backpack.
He didn't even run after me. I didn't even hear him protest. I heard the door close again and him stomping away from me. I never saw Alex again, but it didn't matter, I was better off that way.
