A friend would still be there come tomorrow...
A friend would comfort, not cause you sorrow. As I had planned, I kicked Hunter out of my house exactly an hour later. I had grown irritated at his constant quips and sarcastic remarks. I just wanted to get this essay done so I didn't have to deal with him anymore.
I was flitting around in the kitchen, cooking dinner when the front door opened. My very tired looking mother fell in the door, her arms heavy with shopping bags. I turned around quickly. "Do you need help?" I asked, walking to her.
She shook her head. "I'm balanced" she replied.
She put all the groceries on the middle isle bench. She sniffed the air. "Smells delicious, what is it?" She asked, coming over to the pot.
"Something I thought up" I replied, shrugging.
She gave me a quick hug. "I'm so tired I could just go to sleep right now" she said, closing her eyes over the steam.
"What happened at work?" I asked.
My mother was in retail. Currently, she has worked her way up to Manager in under 12 months. "Just the usual rude customers and lazy staff" she replied, moving away from the stove.
"How was school?" she asked, walking over to the fridge.
I sighed. "That bad huh?" she replied.
"Yep, my worst nightmare came true" I said, flicking a strand of red hair out of my face.
"Game of thrones was cancelled? or uh Twenty One Pilots split up? what's that other band?" she asked, thinking.
I chuckled. "Uh no, but seriously if Twenty Pilots did split up, they'd get a very stern word from me" I replied.
My mother pulled herself onto a stool. "So what happened at school today?" she asked.
I stirred what was in the pot before turning and leaning on my elbows. "We have an English essay" I said.
Mum looked confused. "You love essays and exams?" she asked, still confused.
"Except this a partner essay and guess who I got partnered with?" I asked.
Mum looked thoughtful. "Is it that William kid?" she asked.
I shook my head. "The one named Blake?" she asked.
I shook my head again. "Okay, I give up" she admitted, defeated.
"Hunter" I replied.
It got exactly the reaction I knew I would get. "WHAT!" she yelled.
I shushed her. Her face flashed with anger. "I can't believe you chose him as a partner, especially after what he put you through!" she exclaimed, while I walked to the cupboard.
"I uh didn't choose, my teacher did" I replied, setting bowls on the bench.
"Want me to go talk to him? Maybe push him around a bit? God I could really punch someone right now" she said, a smile on her face.
"Mum no! Jesus, you need to get your anger checked" I said, laughing.
She rolled her eyes. "I'm allowed to be mad" she said.
I nodded. "Have you heard from him yet?" Mum asked, sipping the water bottle she grabbed from the fridge.
Him, being my father. They didn't call each other by their names or they didn't say mother or father it was just him and her. "No, I don't think I will tonight" I replied, serving up dinner.
