Hunter's POV
"Hey, I'm home" I called out, closing the front door behind me.
"In the kitchen" Jamie's voice replied.
I smiled to myself at the thought of my beautiful wife as I walked towards the kitchen. She was bent over at the oven, pulling a tray of hot cookies out. "Hey" I said, walking up behind her and snaking my hands around her waist.
I rested my chin on her shoulder as she put the cookies on the stove top. "Hey, how was work?" she asked, tilting her head.
"Exhausting, but than I remind myself that I'm coming home to you" I whispered in her ear.
She giggled and turned around in my arms, placing her hands on my shoulders. She lent in and kissed me. "Ew" another voice said.
I pulled away from my bride to look at my daughter. "Oh honey, you'll live" Jamie said, shaking her head and smiling.
"It's still gross" Hannah said, rolling her eyes.
I looked at Jamie and she looked at me, giving me the 'She's your daughter' look. Betrayal of the worst kind. "So Hannah, how was school?" I asked, flicking her shoulder as I walked to the fridge.
"Dad!" she exclaimed, rubbing it.
"You didn't answer my question" I said, grabbing a bottle of water.
"It was fine, school being school, are you going to come to my sports carnival?" she asked, staring up at me with her eyes that looked so much like her mothers.
"Yes, I've already taken the day off" I replied.
Hannah smiled. "Thanks dad" she said before bouncing up the stairs.
"Thanks dad" Jamie mimicked.
I shook my head at my wife. "Don't be mean" I said, sliding onto a stool.
Jamie slid a plate of cookies onto the bench. "I'm not being mean, but I love how you're the favourite parent" she said with the air of jealousy.
"Bitch! I'm back!" Eleanor's voice said as the front door opened.
"Ellie, language!" Jamie scolded.
I shook my head at the two best friends. "Yeah mum, language" Eleanor's son said, walking in behind her.
Eleanor pushed her son in front of her. "Go play with Hannah" Ellie said.
"I'm not twelve" Kerian said, shaking his head.
"You are twelve, at least I think you are this year" Ellie said.
Kerian sulked and moved towards the stairs. I held out my hand and he high fived it before we bumped knuckles. "How you doin little man?" I asked.
"Good, Uncle Hunter, I have a question" he said, looking up at me with blue eyes.
Kerian looked like his mother but had his father's eyes. I pained at the memory of him. "Do you think Hannah could like me?" he asked.
I almost burst out laughing, but I didn't show it. "Uh sure I guess, but she's two years older than you" I said, tilting my head to look at him properly.
Kerian sighed and we heard footsteps behind us. Everyone turned to look at Hannah come down the stairs. "Oh you're here!" she squealed in seeing him.
I watched her face contort and I smiled before looking at Jamie. She noticed me looking and smiled back. Hannah looked at Kerian the way Jamie had looked at me when we were kids. "Hey" Kerian said.
I leaned in close to him. "Hey buddy, that whole her liking you, I think she already does" I whispered.
His face flushed and I stood up. Hannah took some cookies. "Can we go to the park?" Hannah asked.
Jamie and I nodded. "Be back before dusk please" Jamie said.
They giggled before running for the door. "Whoa settle you two" a manly voice said.
"Uncle William!" I heard our children squeal in excitement.
"Go have fun" he said.
William appeared in the doorway. "Those two are going to be heart breakers" he said, smiling.
I rolled my eyes as William straightened his police uniform. "Hey bro" Ellie said as Jamie walked back into the kitchen.
"Hunter, Jamie" William acknowledged us.
"Hey Will" Jamie replied, walking towards the fridge. I nodded at him.
I stood up and walked over to Jamie, who was taking things out of the fridge. "Need some help?" I asked, holding my hands out.
Jamie gave me a grateful look and started putting things in my hands. "You guys go out to the bbq" Jamie said, looking at Ellie and Will.
"Please tell me there's alcohol" Ellie said.
"No, because you are driving and I'd hate for you to be arrested by your brother" Jamie said, taking things out of my hands and putting them on the shelf.
Ellie mumbled as she walked outside with her brother in tow. Jamie was stressing herself out, I could tell. I reached over and took her hands. "Hey, I don't have tim-" she said but I cut her off.
"Take a breath, it's just a bbq, not Christmas lunch" I said.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "Thanks babe" she said.
I leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. "I love you" I said, as she opened her eyes.
She smiled gently. "I love you too" she said, touching my cheek.
I kissed her deeply before pulling away and she sighed. "Wanna help?" she asked.
"Always" I replied, waiting for her to give me directions.
