At one point in your life, you have a friend.
People tell you that having a best friend is the best thing in the world.
But no one ever warns you about falling in love with them.
No one ever warns you about the hurt and the pain that comes with it.

I didn't know I had hit the floor until my palms cracked against the gym floor. I heard Eleanor cry out as well.

Arms went under mine, trying to hold me up. Whispering surrounded us as graduates stared at me. William was at my side, pushing back my hair to stare into my eyes.

But he wouldn't see anything. I wasn't there.

"Jamie!" William called out.

He was yelling it right in my face but it was like he was in mute. His mouth was moving but I couldn't hear a thing.
All I could hear was the beep of the heart machine.

"Just admit it J" he said, his nose touching mine again.

"Admit what?" I asked.

"You still have feelings for me" he said.

Suddenly, I was the one on the hospital bed and Hunter was hovering over me. His smirk was prominent and his eyes were bright. His nose was touching mine and all I had to do was move a few inches to kiss him.

"Jamie!" William yelled.

This time I heard it. My eyes snapped open and I fell forward, crashing into his arms. They circled me. He had brought me out of my revere and it all came crashing down onto my again.

He was all alone in a hospital. I sobbed into William's graduation gown. My mother was consoling Eleanor.
"Jamie" William whispered.

"I'll take you there all you have to do is ask" he said pushing me back far enough to stare into my eyes.

I gulped and tugged on his collar. "Take me there" I said as strongly as I could.

He nodded and a fierce look crossed his face. I tried to stand but I realized that wasn't happening anytime soon. William swept me into his arms, carrying me bridle style out of the gym.

My mother and best friend followed. I was buckled into his car faster than you could say Sasquatch. Hunter's parents were yelling but no one was listening to them.

William was speeding out of the parking lot. He only slowed down when police lights came into view.

We were at an intersection and my throat closed up. I found it difficult to breathe as I saw it. Hunter's car.

The car had been smashed into the side and was half wrapped around a light pole. What had me sick was the fact that the other car had hit the driver's side, head on. Glass littered the asphalt.

I found myself looking as William drove slowly. My hands clenched the door when I saw blood. On Hunter's car and on the ground. I whimpered.
"Don't look Jamie!" William exclaimed.

I tore my eyes away to look at him. "Keep your eyes on me" he said.

I stared at him. Suddenly, he was putting his foot down. We lurched forward as we sped towards the hospital.

With each moment, I was imagining Hunter dying and it made me sick to my stomach.

I just wanted Hunter to be okay. I wanted him to open his eyes and see me. I wanted him to smile that crooked smile of his and I want him to crack a hospital joke.
