The next day, Monica found herself in her music room with Jake as they worked on homework at the last minute.
"Miss?" JARVIS interrupted. Jake jumped.
"Yes?" Monica asked while sniggering at Jake, who playfully slapped her arm.
"Your father is at the town Gulmira, the one Miss Everheart informed you of yesterday." JARVIS informed her.Monica groaned and pulled out her phone, calling her father with narrowed eyes.
"Hey Mon-" Tony started, loud explosions in the background.
"Want to tell me why you are in a town with high terrorist activity that not even the US government has granted permission to enter?" Monica questioned angrily, cutting off her father.
"Well I-" Tony started to try to explain, air sounding as though he was on a jet.
"Even after only having been home for a week and a half after being kidnapped by a terrorist pod for four months?" She added, getting more angry. "Where are you?" She snapped before her father could explain.
"On my way back now." Tony mumbled slightly.
Rhodey then joined the call. "Tony."
"Who's this?" Tony asked in confusion
"It's Rhodey dad." Monica groaned while throwing herself back, laying her head in Jake's lap.
"Sorry?" Tony asked again as the background noise got louder.
"What in the hell is that noise? And how is school Monica?" Rhodey asked in confusion.Monica huffed in annoyance.
"Oh yeah I'm driving with the top down." Tony lied.
Monica rolled her eyes. "Yeah, well I need your help right now." Rhodey informed, not buying Tony's lie. "Monica, school?"
"School's fine Rhodes." Monica answered quickly.
"It's funny how that works." Tony mumbled into the phone, only half paying attention.Monica threw the phone on speaker, moving her finger to her lips for Jake to be quiet. Nodding, Jake mimicked her actions before shuffling closer to her now upright form.
"Yeah. Speaking of funny, we've got a weapons depot that was just blown up a few clicks from where you were being held captive." Rhodey informed, Monica's breath hitched. However, whether that was Rhodes' information or Jake's lips was unknown to her befuddled mind.
Tony was obviously nervous. "Well that's a hotspot. Sounds like someone stepped in and did your job for you, huh?" Tony added. Monica almost face palmed as her dad made his involvement almost painfully obvious.
"Why do you sound out of breath Tony?" Rhodey asked suspiciously.
Jake turned Monica's head to capture her lips in his own, his hands entangling her hair.
"I'm not, I was just jogging in the canyon." Tony replied.
Monica and Jake winced as they both caught Tony's plot hole.
Rhodey didn't miss it either. "I thought you were driving." He pointed out.
"Right, I was driving to the canyon, where I'm going to jog." Tony covered quickly, still leaving holes in his story.Monica wanted to reach through the phone and throttle him.
"You sure you don't have any tech in that area I should know about?" Rhodey asked suspiciously.
"Nope." Tony answered quickly.
"Okay, good, 'cause I'm staring at one right now, and it's about to be blown to kingdom come." Rhodey annouced into the phone.
"That's my exit." Tony stated quickly, hanging up along with Rhodey before Monica could get a word in."Jake..." She trailed off in worry.
"He'll be fine Monica. You'll see." Jake assured her with a hug as she nestled into his chest."Miss, your father is calling." JARVIS stated after a few moments of silence.
