Monica entered her lab through the hatch in the ceiling only to see her dad sitting in her chair, waiting. "Hey dad!" Monica nervously greeted, still in her suit.
"Hey kid, you coming to the party tonight?" Tony asked her happily, as he continued to spin in her chair.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world dad. You need to get ready. Go." Monica tried to hurry her dad out of the lab.
"Hold up, I'm feeling sentimental." Monica nearly groaned in frustration. "I've never really taken the time to let you know how much I appreciate you in the last few months. I just want you to know that I am so proud of you working so hard to not only save your mother and I, but also others. You have grown into a beautiful young lady and I couldn't be more proud sweetheart." Tony spoke proudly.
Monica sighed and hugged her father, carefull to avoid pressuring bruised parts of her body. Her father however, hugged her tightly back, as he didn't know about the new bruises littering her body. With such extensive and deep bruising, Monica was bound to wince and of course, Tony was bound to notice.
"Kid? You alright?" Tony asked, placing his hand on the back of Monica's neck. The girl winced and recoiled from his touch. "Take the suit off." Tony demanded, watching at the sleek black coverage fell away to show him his daughter.
Tony's eyes landed on her already deep blue and purple. "Who did this to you?" He asked in concern, his worry grew as Monica started to cry, the feeling of guilt weighing down on her. "Monica what happened baby?" Tony pressured again.
"I messed up! I'm so sorry, I did something horrible!" She sobbed pitifully.
"Tell me." Tony demanded as he stared at her face.
"I-I didn't think he would be that mad, during Monico o-one of the vigilantes in the group I work - worked - with got s-shot, on a mission I was supposed to be on. W-when I went in tonight, they had m-murdered the man who- the man who shot him." Monica sobbed pittifully as her arms hugged her body. "He had kids! A wife and he was mutilated over a shot to the arm. I could've stopped it, I shouldn't have left." Monica cried harder as she barely whispered the last part. "They're going to kill again and then they are going to kill me."
Tony paled as he saw his daughter tremble with fear and breakdown completely.
"Hush, it will be okay sweetheart. They won't touch you." Tony assured his daughter.
"Not everyone is as fortunate as I am to have an Ironman at their beck and call." Monica whispered against her dads chest sadly. "I guess it's a good thing that him and his family just won a paid-for trip to Hawaii." Monica added softly.
"Now how did you manage that while crying?" Tony asked with a grin.
"I'm a good multitasker."
"Oh really?"
"I learned from the best."
"Touché."
The two brunettes sighed and looked at the clock. "We need to go get ready, I need to get all of my concealer on too."
"Are you sure going to a party is such a smart idea with a group of murderous vigilantes on your ass?" Tony asked with a raised eyebrow.
"There is no way they can do anything to me tonight, might as well prove that I am stronger than they think." Monica told him, her features carefully schooled to perfection.
Tony merely nodded as his daughter disappeared up the stairs.
It wasnt for another hour before he saw his daughter again, the party in full swing. She was stunning and yet, stayed at the edge of the party, taking to sipping a coke and observing the guests with bland interest. Tony sighed and turned to the bar, ordering some expensive drink, when he turned back to Monica she was gone.
