Chapter 10

Monica was hiding out in her lab, mainly cleaning it up when she heard yet another crash from upstairs. "What in the hell?" She muttered and walked upstairs to see a near fully funtioning particle accelerator and Tony talking with Coulson. "Hey guys, why do we have a particle accelerator in the lab and how?"

"I built it, and to cure me." Tony explained.

Coulson picked up a shield, it was red, white, and blue. It was a recognizable shield and one that Monica knew immediately to be that of Captain America. "What's this doing here?"

"That's it. Bring that to me." Tony ordered. Monica looked shocked that Tony recignized the shield, seeing as he didn't pay all that much to heros who weren't himself.

Coulson was equally as shocked as he handed the shield to Tony. You know what this is?"

"It's exactly what I need to make this work. Lift the coil." Tony ordered, the three picking up the coil ever so slightly. "Go, go. Put your knees into it. There you go. And... Drop it. Drop it." Tony slid the shield under it. "Perfectly level." He noted, putting thr level on the coil. "I'm busy. What do you want."

"You have not a shread of social graces." Monica muttered to him, shooting him a playfull grin as she did so.

"Nothing. Goodbye. I've been reassigned. Director Fury wants me in New Mexico." Coulson informed the two with a smile.

"Fantastic. Land of enchantment." Tony commented.

"So I've been told." Coulson agreed with a nod.

"Secret stuff?" Tony asked, crossing his arms.

"Something like that. Good luck." Coulson stated, his eyes holding sincerity.

Tony nodded and held his hand out. "Bye. Thanks."

Grabbing his hand, Coulson nodded. "We need you." He stated truthfully.

Monica raised her eyebrows at the statement. "Yeah, more than you know." Tony stated. Rolling her eyes, Monica noted how Tony always ruined the moment.

"Not that much." Coulson disagreed.

As the agent went to leave, monica reached out and grabbed his arm. "Coulson? Thanks for looking out for me. Amd getting me back on track." She stated with a genuine smile. "If you need anything don't hesitate to ask."

"Of course, I think we'll be seeing nore of each other though. Have a good day." Coulson stated, leaving Monica to reflect on the possible meaning of his words.

Well, reflect until Tony handed her a pair of goggles. "What are these for?" She asked.

"We're discovering a new element, it's about to get bright in here." Tony stated as though it were obvious. Slowly and hesitantly, Monica put the goggles on amd stood behind Tony.

"Initialising prismatic accelerator." A bright laser started to shine through the accelerator. "Approaching maximum power." Quickly, Tony gabbed a wrench and cranked the laser, directing it to a small traingle on the other side of the accelerator. After destroying everything the laser touched, the triangle shined a bright blue before calming down to a subtle glow.

Tony and Monica approached the new core in awe. Tony pulled it out with gloves. "That was easy." He commented.

"Really, then why did it take you so long to figure out?" Monica reminded him.

"Shut it kid." He grumbled and placed the triangle into the waiting reactor.

"Congratulations sir. You have created a new element. Sir, the reactor has accepted the modified core. I will begin running diagnostics." JARVIS informed as the reactor lit up with power.
