"And what do I get from this?" The green eyed man asked, oblivious to the magic stalking him from behind.
His soon to be Puppeteer smirked. "Earth, you may rule the Midgardians, assuming of course that the Tesseract is turned over to me."
Darkness invaded the lost Prince's mind, altering his answer. "When do we start?"
A sharp gasp filled the air as Monica shot straight up. The same dream, over and over again had been haunting her for the past two months. She had no clue what it could mean, was Loki being controlled during the New Mexico events or was he being controlled? The Stark shook her head and got up for the day.
Being controlled would insinuate that the Prince was still alive and after too much time spent searching and Heimdal's near constant scannings for him, there was no way Loki was alive.
She was familiar with this trick of course, her brain was trying to subdue her guilt for not saving him by posing the option that he was more alive than she might assume. It happened with Jake and her Mother, so why not Loki?
Slowly the woman made her way down to the kitchens, grabbing a piece of bread, water, and a fruit bowl.
"You know, no one's going to take that from you." Odin announced to Monica as he entered the room.
Monica raised her eyebrow. "Really? Remember training?"
The King laughed and sat down across from her, stealing a grape. She shot him a playful glare but said nothing.
Odin had become a father to Monica, seeing as both of her father's were on Earth, in a entirely different realm. He had taught her how to fight, how to advise, and a more proper education on reading people. Likewise, Frigga had become another mother, teaching the girl proper ettiqute, how to lie, and she had even started teaching her how to use and manipulate magic.
Monica learned that magic wasn't a skill you were born with, it was a learnt skill. Anyone could do it, even Tony Stark, a man rooted in science, it just took opening yiur eye to be able ti connect with the magic that resided everywhere. It flowed between everybody, an essential life force that was the very heart and soul of all universes. It was binding, all a person needed to know was how to manipulate it in form and structure, which wasn't all that hard as the soul acted as a conduit. It took Monica a mere week and a half to start learning and a month to get fairly good at it, she had been studying and training in the arts since the third week she had been in Asgard, learning of its properties.
Magic wasn't neverending but even if every person on Earth was a practiced sorcerer they still wouldn't put a dent on the reservoir of magic from all the infinite universes combined.
"I need you to come with me, we are looking into Loki again." Odin told her, suddenly serious.
Monica raised an eyebrow. "With all due respect sir, there has been no evidence that Loki wasn't destroyed by space for nearly a year, what's changed?"
"Come with me."
Tony was just entering his daughters tower after making it self sustaining based on the work he found in her lab. She really was quite a genius, had ideas that he hadn't even considered, and he just found the first draft.
Pepper was waiting for him with tears in her eyes, remembering the same girl he was. "She'll come home."
"Of course she will, she's a Stark, it's what we do." Tony assured with a small smile, a real one.
"Levels are holding steady... I think." Pepper stated, watching screen with slightly dazed eyes.
"Of course they are, I was directly involved and Monica designed it. Which brings me to my next question: how does it feel to be a genius?" He asked, mocking a reporter.
"Well, ha, I really wouldn't know now, would I?" She chuckled humorously.
"What do you mean? All this came from you." He gestured to the room then at her.
She moved forward, touching the glowing triangle on his chest. "No. All this came from that."
Tony tries to continue. "Give yourself some credit, please. Stark Tower is your baby. Give yourself... twelve percent of the credit."
"Twelve percent?"
Tony starts to backtrack, realizing his mistake. "An argument can be made for fifteen."
"Twelve percent? For my baby?"
"Well, I did do all the heavy lifting. Literally, I lifted the heavy things. And sorry, but the security snafu? That was on you." Pepper huns, unimpressed. "My private elevator,"
"You mean OUR elevator?" She pointed out.
"was teeming with sweaty workmen. I'm going to pay for that comment about percentages in some subtle way later, aren't I?" He asked, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Pepper nodded to him. "Not gonna be that subtle."
"I'll tell you what. Next building's gonna say 'Potts' on the tower." Tony promised, trying to get out of the yet to be seen unsubtle payback that was stewing.
Pwpper snorted and started walking to refill her drink. "On the lease."
"Call your mom, can you bunk over?"
JARVIS, ever so good at interrupting, interrupted Tony. "Sir, the telephone. I'm afraid my protocols are being overwritten."
The last person that Tony wanted to hear or see that night, due simply to the fact that he reminded him of Monica, spoke over the phone. "Stark, we need to talk."
Pickong up his phone, Tony went deadface as he tried to be as serious as he could. "You have reached the life model decoy of Tony Stark, please leave a message."
He wasn't very good at being serious.
"This is urgent." Coulson pressed, not really having the patience for Starks game.
"Then leave it urgently." The elevator opened and Coulson walked in. "Security breach." Tony shouted.
Pepper looked over, walking by and handing Tony his refilled champaign. "That's on you."
"Mr. Stark." Coulson said, well ordered really.
Pepper grinned as she saw him and walked over. "Phil! Come in."
"Phil? Uh, his first name is Agent." Tony pointed out.
Ignoring him, Pepper continued. "Come on in, we're celebrating."
Tony gave her a look. "Which is why he can't stay."
"We need you to look this over." Coulson held out the file. "Soon as possible."
Tony glanced down at it then back up. "I don't like being handed things."
"That's alright, cause I love to be handed things. So, let's trade." Pepper handed Phil Tony's drink and Tony Phil's file.
"Official consulting hours are between eight and five every other Thursday." Tony stated.
Phile shook his head. "This isn't a consultation."
"So you mean to tell me that we have solid evidence that Loki is on Earth?" Monica clarified with a raised eyebrow.
Thor, Odin, and Frigga all nodded. "Looks like my trip home has been pushed up, when do we leave?"
"Tomorrow evening. We're working on an exact location." Heimdal told the woman, who nodded respectfully.
"Well, I better study up."
