Chapter 5

"Whoa, you look rough." Aeryn says to me as we sit down to eat lunch. I shoot her a 'haha very funny' look.

"Well hello to you too Aeryn" I reply sarcastically.

"What" she says shrugging her shoulders. "Usually the whole messy bun, baggy tee, and sweat pants look look good on you." She continues "But it ain't working for ya today sister"

"I had a bad dream and didn't sleep much last night. I really don't care how I look at this point" I respond looking past her and to the table where Kyrad was sitting alone. "By the way, the new kid walked me home yesterday since you decided to ditch me" I say looking back at her.

"What?!" She almost spat out her food."He walked you home?? Was it weird? Did he say much? What??" She says looking at me wide eyed.

"I don't know" I say looking back over at him "He didn't really say much. Found out his name is Kyrad, or Kai for short." I say looking at her, disappointment plastered on her face. "He says he lives out in the woods not too far from where I live.Do you ever remember seeing any house out there?" I ask her curious.

"No." She says glancing over at him. "I don't."

"Didn't think so" I say getting up. "I'm going to head to class. You know how mom is about me being late."

"Hey" Kai says to me as I sit next to him at my desk.

"Hey" I mumble back not really paying attention to him.

He seemed to register the gloomy mood I was in and gave me some space. He was quiet the rest of the class period, only looking over at me when I glance at him. When it came time for class to end I slowly packed my bag.

"You ok?" Kai asks standing up and coming over to me.

"Yeah, just a bad dream is all." I say getting up.

"I see you're not in a rush today." He says putting his hands in his pockets. When I didn't respond he said "I shouldn't be expecting you to run into me today should I?" Amusement written across his face. He flashed me a smile. I let out a small chuckle.

"No, you shouldn't" I say walking to the spot that Aeryn and I meet up at. "Sorry for the mood" I continue "Lack of sleep makes me moody."

"Nightmares?" He asked looking at me concern in his eyes.

Is he actually concerned about me or is he just asking to be nice? He genuinely seems concerned.

Before I could reply I heard Aeryn behind me.

"Ready?" She asks before realizing who was with us. "Oh" Looking over at me curiously, I introduce the two.

"Aeryn this is Kyrad. Kyrad this is Aeryn." They exchange glances. I raise an eyebrow at Aeryn.

"We met briefly in the hall." she says glancing at Kyrad. "We better get going" She says quickly "I take it you'll be walking with us? It'll be nice to have a guy with us. You know, in case something were to happen." she continues and starts to walk away.

"Shall we?" I ask him looking after her.

"Yes, we shall." He says smirking at me.

We fall in step beside Aeryn. not really paying attention to her, I glance over to Kai. He seemed to be really engaged in the conversation that they were having. not wanting to interrupt them I begin to let my eyes wonder. We were about five minutes out from my house I noticed. Looking farther into the woods, I never realized how vast these woods were. I glanced over to Aeryn and Kai who were still in deep conversation. Who knew they had so much to talk about.. I let my mind drift back to the dream I had had last night. Who was this women? Why was she after me? What did she want? I have nothing to offer anyone I think to myself not realizing that I had fallen behind. I scan the trees around me, feeling as if I'm being watched. scanning the surrounding area I come up blank. Of course there's no one out here. I'm just being paranoid because of the dream. Snap. I turn my head to the left and there in the distance was the woman from my dream. My heart jumped in my throat. I quickened my pace, not taking my eyes off her.

Then there's sky. I'm looking at the sky. Confused I sit up and look around me. Aeryn and Kai were standing in front of me looking down at me curiously. Then it dawned on me what had happened. Again. I groan. I really need to stop making this a habit of mine I think to myself glancing at Kai as I got up.

He let out a small laugh, "Are you ok?" he asks looking concerned again. I look around me, scanning the trees. She's gone.

"Yeah, I thought I saw something and got spooked." I say starting to walk again. I look over my shoulder once more, nothing. I must really be tired.

We make it to the house a few moments later.

"Thanks again for walking with us" Aeryn says giving him a smile before turning to go inside.

"Yeah" I say once shes inside." Thanks." I glance up at him, he looks upset.

"What spooked you back there?" He asks catching me off guard. I blink a few times and look down at my hands.

"It was nothing. I didn't sleep well last night so I was probably just seeing things." I say looking up at him.

He frowns "You sure you're ok?" He asks looking upset.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll see you tomorrow." I say. His frown deepens.

"Alright, see you then" He says running his hand through his hair looking up at me.

Sadness registers on his face for a moment before he turns and walks away with his head hung low. I go inside and try to ignore the fact that Kai seemed concerned and sad for me. But why sad?

"Hey" Aeryn says as I walk in. "Your mom said I can stay the night with you if you want me to." I look at my mom, she shrugs her shoulders.

"When wouldn't I want you to stay over?" I ask her sarcastically. "After the dream I had last night I'll be glad you're here. Maybe I'll get some sleep tonight. "I say as we head towards my room.

"Kryselis" I hear my name being whispered.

"Kryselis, wake up." I register Aeryns voice. "Wake up. Your shaking."

I sit up "I am?"I asked and noticed I was still shaking a little.

"Yes, it's calmed down but you were shaking bad." She says looking at me with wide eyes. "Are you ok?"

I look at the clock and groan. Two forty three in the morning. This really has to stop.

"Yeah, I'm ok." I assure her. "Just another bad dream."

She lays back down, "Are you sure you're ok?"

Laying back down myself I say "Yes, I'm sure. Go back to sleep."

I listened to her breathing pattern which eventually made me fall asleep an hour before we had to get up.

School went by in a blur. It was hard to focus on anything from lack of sleep. I made no effort to pay attention in class. The only thing I was looking forward to today, was my bed. We sat in silence when it came around to eat lunch, both of us tired from the events of last night. When it came time to go home Aeryn informed me that her mother wanted her straight home today since she stayed over last night.

"Sorry" she says walking away.

"I take it it'll be just the two of us today" Kyrad asks coming up to me.

"Seems that way" I respond and start to walk.

We walked in silence the whole way to my house. Kyrad looked as if he was deep in thought so I didn't want to disturb him. Not that I had much to say anyway. I glance at him, he was wearing a long sleeved v-neck shirt. At the bottom of the V you could make out some the tattoos that were on his chest. How many tattoos does he have? They were similar to the ones that were on his arms. I look forward not wanting him to catch me staring.

When we got to the end of my driveway I waived and was about to walk away when he says, "Wanna go for another walk?" Looking at me innocently.

"Right now?" I asked surprised. He nods his head. "Um" I respond glancing at my house. "Sure."

Walking towards him, "Cool, I know this special place we can go" he says walking off into the woods. "We can talk there." I look at him curiously and follow.

Kryselis sure loves to run into Kai. ;)
