After I asked him the million dollar question he wouldn't look at me, just stood there and stared at the poor, sick girl in the room instead of facing the elephant. It took what seemed like forever for him to turn back to me and reply at which point I remembered to breath.
"I heard everything, Nova," he said forcing eye contact now.
"So you know about-"
"I know about the vision, I know about my part in it, I even know what I'll do to-" he cut himself off and turned away from me while running his hands through his hair. He turned back to me and suddenly he didn't look like my beautiful, strong mate.
Suddenly he looked like a man who was tired. A man who'd spent his entire life fighting for something that he knew he couldn't achieve- a home and a family that loved him as much as he loved it. He looked like a man who'd traveled across the globe for that family only to come back and find out that it was being snatched by none other than himself.
Suddenly he looked as exhausted on the outside as he must have been in the inside.
"I'm so sorry," I whispered," I just thought that if you were gone for a little while, just long enough for me to give birth and for that detail to be out of the way, then the prophecy couldn't come true and then we'd all be safe."
"So you sent me on a wild goose chase? Only I found the goose," he muttered the last part with incredulity.
"Yes, yes I did. I never thought you would find her! Not after my entire pack had fine-combed the entire known world for one wolf and come up empty handed."
"But I did. I did and now she's here and so am I," he gazed at me with hard eyes," What are you going to do about it now?"
I groaned in despair. Why do I always have to come up with the next step? There are 2 other Oracles, an Alpha and a Luna for crying out loud!
"I don't know. I'm just so tired of it all, Tyler. I'm tired of prophecies and visions and diseases and death. I just want it all to stop."
He came over to me and gave me a gentle hug. We stood there and watched Georgiana sleep for a while after that before we went outside and parted ways.
Holly's POV
I watched as Nova and Tyler parted ways from my spot behind a tree at the edge of the woods outside Freya's house. There was no kiss. Barely a hug. Hardly a few words. He walked off and she got in her car.
He is backing away again, I thought, he's getting ready to leave.
We can't let him.
Why? He could return in a few months and we could all be together, like we planned.
If he runs off then how will we watch him and make sure no one else tries to use him? He's already been seen in the vision as an antagonist, we can't let someone take advantage of his weakened mind and morale with magic.
You're right.
I ran in the direction he had taken off in, he wasn't running so that was good. I'm not even sure Kian could catch a hybrid at top speed. Tyler always goes at top speed. I should know, I've seen him go every time he leaves.
He's fast.
"Tyler! Tyler, wait up," I shouted. He stopped walking and turned in my direction. When he saw it was me he fully turned to face me with an annoyed and tired look on his face.
"What?"
"I want to share a theory with you," I gestured to the path of snow in front of us in front of us," Walk with me?"
He didn't reply, only turned and started walking in the path I had pointed at.
"So, I take it you know everything?"
"I know everything."
"Good. I had wanted Nova to tell you from the start, it wasn't my place to tell her that though."
"Why not? You don't seem to have a problem stating your opinion."
"It wasn't my secret to tell."
"Back to this theory."
"Right. So, my theory is that you'll be leaving soon. I don't think you should."
"I disagree. If I leave then it will make things better and easier for everyone."
"If you leave then someone could take advantage of you."
"Relax, Holly. I won't be turned into a biker's bitch because I left for a few months, I'll be back in time to see my baby grow up. Just not to see it born."
"That's not what I meant and you know it. With your distraught state you are so much more likely to be used for magical purposes, someone could curse you or spell you or hex you and then you wouldn't have a choice!"
He let the words sink in before agreeing not to leave, I even got him to agree to going back to Freya's house and crashing on the sofa in the living room. There was no way he'd be allowed back in the pack house yet.
After walking with him back to the orphanage I made my way back to the pack house and my room where I found my mate already fast asleep in my bed.
Maybe this could work out, I whispered to my wolf as she settled somewhere inside me to sleep, maybe we could make it through this after all?
Maybe, human, now go to sleep. You're tired.
I will. Goodnight, wolf.
Goodnight, human.
Kayla's POV
"And you're sure he's here? He's sleeping?"
Her red head nodded, eyes fierce and a bit wild. She was getting ancy. Good.
"Should I do it tonight? I can have him wake up with it already in his mind."
"No, then they'd suspect you. We can't have that, now can we?"
"No, we can't. You're right."
"Put it in his food in the morning, but make it subtle. It can't take effect until he's been away for long enough."
"Yes, Kayla."
"By this time tomorrow, Tyler will be under our control," I paused and a smile spread across my face," He will be pleased."
"I believe he will."
