Once inside I could see that no one had heard what Dimitri and I had. The music was simply too loud inside. It was deafening almost. I wondered for a moment if this had been done deliberately, but I couldn't allow myself to wonder about it for too long as I spotted Ms.Hatch dashing out of the hall with another couple of teachers who had been monitoring the dance. I scanned the crowd for Carmen. Fortunately it didn't take me long to spot her. She was hopping up and down like a crazy person. I forced my way through the crowd, still wearing Dimitri's tuxedo jacket. I could not believe how oblivious everyone here was to what was happening outside.

What ever was happening outside of course.

The moment I had reached Carmen, I grabbed hold of her by her one arm and begun to pull her out and away from the crowd. Of course she was confused by what I was doing, but she didn't try and fend me off from her. It was only once I was outside that I could even hear my footsteps let alone the sound of my own heart beating crazily in my chest.

"What the hell Savannah?!" Carmen moaned.

I could hear her now too."Powder room!" I shouted back at her.

Carmen didn't argue or moan again after hearing those words leave my mouth. She knew what that meant. It was a secret code we decided to use for tonight when we knew it was time to sneak away from the party. Carmen and I turned a corner and found ourselves standing in a dimly lit passage a short distance from the great hall. I released Carmen as I turned around to face her. We were both somewhat out of breath and running in these heels were not doing either of us any favours neither.

"Something has happened." I said while trying to catch my breath.

"What?" Carmen asked. She too, trying to catch her breath.

"I don't have all the details, but we heard a wolf howl outside and than a girl scream."

"We?"

"Dimitri and I. He ordered me to come inside. I couldn't argue with him. I am not sure what is going on, but I saw how quickly Ms. Hatch and a few other teachers ran out of the hall without alerting anyone. I'm pretty sure that Dimitri will be okay so I think we should use the chance to sneak into the secret room while everyone is distracted."

"Do you think someone got hurt or even worse?"

"I'm not sure, but I hope not. I suggest we get going."  I couldn't lie to myself. I felt concerned about Dimitri being wherever he was currently at, but I couldn't allow that to stop me from doing what Carmen and I had been planning on doing for what felt like forever now. I had to find out what this massive secret was that everyone in this town was keeping from the outsiders no matter what.

Carmen and I exchanged concerned and maybe even nervous glances with each other before we removed our shoes and took off down the passage in the direction of Ms.Hatch's office. We were careful to not be seen by anyone as we hurried along barefoot with our heels in our hands. The thought of Dimitri outside possibly in danger kept running through my mind as I ran. He was capable of looking after himself. I was positive of that which is why I couldn't allow the thought to distract me. I had to just stay focused no matter what. We reached the passage to the principal's office. It was dark and gloomy, but since I had been here before, I knew exactly where to go. I used the wall to help guide me along the way by feeling it with my hands. Carmen clung onto the back of the dress with both hands. She was trembling from fear. I could feel it. Still, I didn't allow this to stop either of us. I kept moving forward, taking Carmen along with me, forcing her to keep moving. Suddenly I felt the smooth feeling of a wooden door. We had finally arrived. There were dim slivers of light shining through the bottom of the door. Was there possibly someone inside? Did we come all the way here for nothing just to have someone inside where we need to be? I decided to not give up on our plan so easily. I pressed my ear up against the door and listened hard for any type of noise whatsoever. I could not hear anything. Maybe there was no one inside. Could I take the chance of being caught out? I could think up some sort of lie. I was positive of that. I took a step away from the door. With one hand, I pulled out the long needle pins I had in my hair, which I used to pin sections of my hair back. Immediately those sections of hair loosened and fell gently across my back and over my shoulders. I turned to face the door.
