Chapter five

GUMBALL POV.

"Because I like you, Bubba."

Those five words sent shivers down my spine in delight. I can't believe I heard Marshall say that... to me.

I swallowed and turned around to face him. He was smiling, his crimson eyes glowing. My heart skipped erratically when he took a step closer to me, cupping my cheeks gently as he did so. My breathing hitched as his lips were barely on mine when a loud knocking came on my door. "PRINCE GUMBALL! Open up, it's urgent! Prince!" Peppermint Maid screeched from behind the pink door. I look back to where Marshall was before and he was gone. The cold wind blew in, coming from the open doors to my balcony. I'm an idiot...

-SKIPPING AN HOUR AHEAD-

"What do you mean 'The Litch is still living'?!" I had sent Fionna to beat the Litch with the medicine to kill him. But it seemed that wasn't the Litch at all, it was a magic copy that looked real to a human's eye; even to me. "I-I'm sorry sir, but I guess we need to send someone out" I slammed my hands on my desk, causing Peppermint Maid to jump and whimper. "I DON'T CARE. As long as my people are safe, I'll take the chance of risking my life! Either we send our best swordsman; or swordswoman at that. Or, we send me. As long as the jobs done; it's done." I sighed and ran my hands frustratingly over my face before turning to Peppermint Maid with a slight smile. "I'm sorry. I just .. Want my people to be safe. I didn't mean to take it out on you, so please forgive me."

She smiled back, before bowing. "It's alright Gumball. Now I'm going to go fetch Fionna the human." She quickly walked away, shutting the door behind her.

MARSHALL POV

The pain in my chest won't subside. The more I think about Gumball, my chest feels like it's suffocating on the air I inhale with his scent that leaves me suffering.

I clutch my chest closing my eyes. And it hit me. I grabbed my bass and started playing.

I play this song at funerals, no rush

These lyrics heard a thousand times, just plush

Setting my bass down against the couch, I run my hands over my face. Why am I so hurt when I'm just in love?

I sighed, "I love you gummy, I do."
