Part of me wanted to just stay home. Part of me was pulling at my arms and legs, begging to go to school and see that funny kid again. After a while of pulling at my blankets, I threw them off the bed and get up, siding with the part of me that wanted to go to school.
When I arrived, he wasn't there. Classes came and went, and I still didn't see him. Not until lunch. "Hey, Nico." I said, walking up to the black haired boy. He jumped up, then leaned on the wall casually as if he meant to do that. He sent me a pointed stare, as if to say, what the heck do you want? Not that I cared. "I didn't see you at class today."
"I didn't go." He looked away.
"Don't you.. have to?"
"Nah. Not like anyone cares anyway." He shrugged.
"Your parents don't care?" He turned towards me again, his stare hardening. Touchy subject, I suppose.
"No," he said after a minute. "They don't." He seemed to be careful with his words.
"So," I said, changing the subject. "Do you play a sport?"
"Why do you care?"
"Um, I dunno, dummy. Maybe because I want to get to know you?" I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.
"Really?" He raised an eyebrow. I nodded firmly. "Okay," he said slowly. "I guess... I used to play baseball, but not anymore."
"Seriously?" I grinned. "That's so cool." I could imagine him playing baseball.
"I guess." He shrugged, and started walking.
"Where are you going?"
"To class." He grimaced.
"Can I walk with you?"
"Do I have a choice?"
"No." I caught up easily. "You're not a talker, are you?" He just rolled his eyes. "Well, I can make up for your lack of voice, I suppose. But that's about it, you'll have to do the rest yourself." We ducked into the classroom and slipped into our chairs.
"And can anyone tell me who, exactly saved the Princess Andromeda from the sea monster?" Our western civilization teacher, Mr. C, was asking the class as we slipped in. I raised my hand. "William?"
"Perseus." I responded quickly. "And it's Will, not William." I mumbled under my breath. Nico snickered from behind me.
"Showing off, William?" He muttered, and a smile tugged at my lips. Okay, so that's how it is then. My smile grew as I turned to glance at Nico behind me. My fingers fumbled as I ripped a piece of paper from my notebook, quickly crumpling it up and tossing it onto Nico's desk. A smirk rested on my face as he opened it to find it blank, and he tapped me on the shoulder.
"What's this?" He whispered.
"Nico! Care to share?" Mr. C called him out from the front of the class.
"Oh, uh, no, sir." His face turned a shade darker and he shot me a glare, and I winked, not so playfully. Oh, this was going to be fun.
