THE NIGHT THE DEAD STARTED WALKING

Reality

Jack*
We stood in position with our weapons drawn.
Oh god. I hope it's nothing dangerous.
Suddenly banging started at the door. I let out a sigh of relief. I looked out of a nearby window. It was only one creeper, but who it was broke my heart.
I walked back slowly to the group.
" Merida.. I think you should step back.." I said to her.
"What? Why?" She asked. Her hands began to shake.
"Meri I just want you safe that's all," I said trying to remain calm.
"No! Who is out there?... Is it my mom?"
"Meri..please.."
"Tell me damn it!!!"
I shook my head and walked to the door. I opened it slowly. The creeper continued to bang and snarl. As soon as it was inside I heard gasps. I kicked it down and held it down.
On the ground was one of Merida's brothers.
His skin was pale and rotten and decorated in blood. This eyes were completely drained of life. A few of his fingers were missing and on his shoulder and stomach bites were neatly printed onto his rotting skin.
Merida held both hands over her mouth. Her eyes became glassy and she began to shake.
"I'm so sorry Meri," Punzie said while putting a hand on her shoulder. Meri shrugged it off and walked up to the corpes on the ground.
"I'm so sorry.." She began crying,"I'm sorry I wasn't there."
That was enough for Rapunzel to let out sniffles and tears of her own. Hiccups eyes got glassy and I hate to admit it but so did mine.
"I'm sorry that this happened to you," she said while taking out an arrow from her quiver,"If mom and dad and Hamish and Harris are dead.. Please tell them to forgive me.."
The creeper just squimed around trying to get out of my grip and reach one of us.
Merida took the arrow and stabbed it slowly into her brothers forehead. He stopped moving and Merida dropped to the ground beside him and began to cry.

We decided to keep the dog. He'd be a big help on warning us. He's very fond of Hiccup and after a few days past they became best friends.
" So.. You're saying that if the bite causes the creeper, then we can cut off the area of the bite and it'd be ok?" Punzie asked behind me.
" Maybe.. But think about it. The bite causes the infection. When someone is bit the infection can't be planted immediately throughout the body.. It has to travel from the bite to the heart, lungs,nervous system, and brain, where it will eventually shut down the body and make that person come back as one of them." Hiccup replied.
Smartass.
"True.. But we don't know how fast it travels throughout the body.. It might take only a few seconds.."
"Maybe.. "
Merida was still mourning. She hasn't let out a word since the incident. It had happened a few days ago. She isn't herself but I wouldn't blame her.
"Well you know.. It was a pretty smart observation though...not like mine" punzie said.
" lemme hear it" hiccup said.
He always supports her.
" I was thinking.. What's really different between us and them?"
"We're not dead," Merida snapped.
"I know Meri.. But I mean look at us I'm talking physically... I mean they look a lot like us. They were human once. We're not that different"
"Yeah the only different is the smell," I said while walking past a few dead creepers.
"Exactly what I was thinking"
I would feel her pull away from the group. I looked behind me and saw her kneeling beside the dead creepers.
What the fuck?
She grabbed her dagger and sliced its stomach open.
" and I thought I went crazy" Meri said while our pinching her nose.
"Well maybe she's not entirely crazy.." I said.
She grabbed a handful of creeper guts and started smearing them all over her.
"Nope totally nuts" I said while holding back vomit.
A few creepers managed to get close without us noticing right when we were about to go for them, but punzie held us back and walked right up to the creepers.
When she go to them they got to an uncomfortable distance. They observed her carefully. I could tell she tensed up. Then they just walked away from her.
Hm.. She figured something out.
But now the creepers were walking toward us. There were two. A skinny woman and a big fat 6ft one.
Oh god.. Suddenly the male creeper jerked his back to the side. He turned away from us and turned towards a brave Rapunzel holding a big tree branch. She stepped back quickly.
Hiccup took out his sword and sliced the female creeper in half, while Merida shot an arrow right into the back of the head of the giant creeper.
"Thanks Meri!" Punze shouted.
"Good job Punzie! You figured something out" Hiccup said
" this will make it way easier to travel in towns" I realized.
"Yes it will!" Punzie said while smiling.
....
And it definitely was... Thanks to her new discovery we were all able to move in and out of towns safely even Toothless. We just discover we couldn't talk or run. We had to act like the creepers. I'm not going to lie being around them gave me anxiety, but it beats having to fight them all off.
We were walking in single file in a herd of creepers. God knows what city we are in. Hiccup was in front, followed by Meri then Punzie then me.
I was shaking. You just can't get used to walking by these man eating monsters. Sweat dripped from my forehead as I thought of everything that could go wrong. A creepers knocked me out of my worries when it bumbed into me. I held back a shout. I looked at me then kept walking away.

After minutes of what felt like forever, we finally reached the end of the herd. We walked quietly a little more and finally made it out of the city.
"Alright guys let's see what we got," Meri said.
I pulled out the contents of my blue back back while everyone fix the same.
Hiccup-
2 flashlights
3batteries
1 blanket
Meri-
5 bullets
2water bottles
1pair of binoculars
Punzie-
2 packets of crackers
3 bullets
1 pack of first aid.
Me-
3 batteries
1 can of beans
1 bar of soap
Toothless-
1 bone.
I smiled at the supplies. This stuff was getting a little hard to come by. I'd say it was about 4 months the since the world was ruined. That would mean we're in February? Which means my birthday is coming up and soon winter will be over!! Yes!! Winter has been hard. Breaking in and out of houses, searching creepers, having to find warmer clothes, finding warm food or any food because all the animals were hibernating.
"Good job guys" Hiccup said smiling.
"Come on we have to go its almost sun down." Punzie said I smiled.

We walked for a good 45 minutes before finding a good looking house. It looked secure. The windows and door were boarded up.
"Great! How do we get in?" Meri asked.
" I got this" jack said beside me.
I smiled and he smiled back.
"Wanna help princess?" He asked.
" sure,"I said "what with?"
" we'll climb through the top it's two stories not high. When we get to the top there's a chimney. I'll guide you through there. "
" ok "
"Keep a look out guys"
"On it" Hiccup said.
"Be careful punze." Merida said.
"I will"
I turned towards Jack. We walked up to the house and then Jack started showing me how to climb the building. It was hard. We grabbed on to what ever we could, vines ,bricks,windows, just what ever we could. After a few minutes Of panicked and testing arm strength we finely reached the roof. Jack held my hand and pulled me up.
"Thanks"
" no problem"
"Ok now.. The chimney" he said.
He held out a rope.
" tie it around yourself and hold on. "
I did as told... And soon I was going down a chimney while Jack lowered me from the roof.
When I reached the bottom I untied myself.
" I'm down" I said quietly.
"Ok I'm coming down"
"Alri-AHHHH " I screamed as I felt a creeper try and tackle me down. I turned quickly and held it back.
It snarled and snapped it's teeth at me.
"Punzie!!" I heard Jack say.
I let out a squeal as I tried to keep the creeper away. He never pushed against me and knocked me down.
Right as the creeper was about to sink it's teeth of to my neck I heard a gunshot and the creeper fell on me lifeless.
I pushed it off me and looked at Jack. He ran towards me with his gun a hand.
" are you ok?," he asked while checking me all over," I'm sorry. I should've gone first.oh god. I'm-"
"Hey... It's ok I'm fine" I said while holding up his chin.
His eyes were glassy.
He bear hugged me.
" I got scared.. I thought I lost you"
I hugged him back.
Suddenly realization hit me.
"That gunshot will alert th-"
"AHHHH!!!"
"HICCUP!!!"
Oh god no.
I raced down the house not even caring if there were creepers I the house or not. I got to the door and opened it desperately as Jack followed.
My eyes got wide as I saw a struggling Merida try to pull Hiccup away from creepers. Luckily there was a fence separating the creepers from them,but it seemed that the creepers had pulled Hiccups leg and had knocked him down.
They were very close to pulling him in the crowd.
I sprinted toward them and so did Jack.
Jack grabbed one of his arms while I grabbed his leg.
Hiccup was really pale.
"Oh god!" Merida screamed,"don't let go"
I pulled harder and the creepers let go. Hiccup limped beside Jack as he helped support him. We finally got inside and I locked the door. I turned to Hiccup. He was sitting down trying to catch his breath.
"Meri help me check the house"
"Ok. Punzie stay here take care of Hiccup."
"Ok." They sprinted off.
"Punze...I need to tell you something.."
"What ?what is it ?"i asked worried .
He didn't answer.
He looked at his leg and pulled up his army green jeans.
My eyes widened and my tears spilled without hesitation. On his leg was a bright red and purple bite.
