Part Fifty-Eight

"Beth how did you get him?" Morgan asks, all of us walking into the mall.

"I don't know really. He was constantly around and we made it official," I explain, lying and leaving out the deal.

She nods and smiles, stopping at the smoothie place. We all get smoothies and Emma pays for mine. The four of us sit and begin talking, Morgan day-dreaming about her own 'Harry'.

"I was considering dying my hair," Gabby says. We all look at her and gasp, all of us loving her curly auburn hair.

"Why would you do that?" Emma gasps. She explains how she wants it more like Morgan's brown hair and with Emma's blonde highlights. "Do what you want, I think it would look cool," I comment, her smile directed towards me. She thanks me and Morgan looks up at me, studying my face.

"Does Harry have soft hands?" She asks, her brown eyes boring into my blue ones. I nod and they all sigh. They previously made remarks on how big his hands are, saying 'I'm one lucky girl'. Of course, once said, my cheeks flushed and they awed me.

"Where did you meet?" Emma asks, sipping her smoothie.

"Um, Ruth's bookstore actually."

Her eyes widen and she looks at the other girls, obviously thinking the same thing. "Is he into books like you are?"

My mind thinks, trying to recall if I should tell them his obsession with classics. I shake my head, sparing his secret and keeping it inside.

"He was with his sister who was picking up a book for school.

Their mouths form into 'o' shapes and my phone buzzes in my pocket. My hand reaches for it and I lift it to my ear, hearing Harry's voice on the other end.

"Beth I'm going to need you to be home later. I have to do something so please stay with your friends."

"Okay. What do you have to do?" I question, standing up and walking away from the table.

"Job stuff and I have to pick up your birthday present."

My lips curve into a smile and I tell him I will see him later. We exchange loving words and I sit back down at the table, the girls smiling at me. The heating in my cheeks start and I subconsciously blush.

"I'm jealous," Morgan says.

"Me too," Emma agrees. "I want it," Gabby adds, me smiling at all of them

Harry.

I want to do something special. This needs to be perfect or it will all fail. I park my car and walk into the shelter, multiple barks filling my ears. My feet walk towards the front desk and the middle-aged lady smiles at me.

"What can I help you with today?" she asks, her name tag reading 'Mary'.

"It's my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow and I want to get her a small cat."

She smiles and nods, having me walking back with her and explaining to her I want a kitten without saying the word 'kitten'. We walk down the halls and constant meows enters my ears now, my memory remembering my old cat, Molly.

"Are you thinking about a kitten?"

I nod and she waves me up and opens a door, kittens walking around the floor. I crouch down and pet some of them, all of them soft to the touch.

"Do you see any you like?" she inquires, my eyes wandering the room. My eyes land on a tiny Himalayan sleeping on a bed.

"That one," I tell her, her head bobbing. Her feet pad over to the kitten and lift it up, the small animal cuddling into her arms.
