Part One

I wake up, feeling my body heavy as I attempt to overcome my morning procrastinating. I get up, my body instantly chilled due to the tank and shorts on my body. The open window surely doesn't help, so I quickly make my way to the bathroom, taking off my clothes and stepping into the steaming shower.

Once finished, I walk out with the towel wrapped around my body. My dark hair drips as I walk to the closet, grabbing my jeans and a tee. I change into my underwear and place the clothes on too, wrapping my hair up into the towel.

Today is work. Working at the local bookstore is boring but the pay is good. The reason I didn't really go to college was because my family simply doesn't have money. My father passed away when I was 12 due to cancer, but I live with my mom now. It's just us two and we are perfectly happy with our lives. I help pay the bills and she appreciates it, but I simply find it as a symbol of my gratefulness.

I blow dry my hair and apply make-up, making my way back to the closet after I do so. I grab my phone and bag, slipping on my Vans and walking out of my room. I descend the stairs and walk out the door. I walk down the street and to the bookstore, only a few blocks away until I get there. It's about 9 and I start at 9:30. One of my favorite things to do while walking is watch people go by. Living in Seattle has it's perks, seeing different characters on the streets due to the multiple comic book and movie conventions.

I enter the shop, a small bell signaling I am here, and smile at Ruth, the owner.

"How are you Beth?" she asks me as I set my bags down.

"I'm good Ruth. How are you?"

"Very fine. Just to let you know that George is out of the hospital and back home now."

I congratulate her and walk back to the storage room. George is her husband and he had a small stroke a few days ago. It wasn't serious but both of us were worried.

I grab my apron and walk back out, seeing the daily customers with their coffee and computers. I guess you could say the shop is sort of like a coffee shop. Wi-Fi, coffee that Ruth makes herself, and a few tables and chairs around the place. The small little shop gets a lot of business on weekends because of the campus across the street.

"Do you want me to work the register?" I ask, Ruth's smile growing as I do so.

"Yes please. I am going to call George. Please watch the books," she laughs and I join. She walks out of the room and a boy walks in. He buys a cup of coffee and walks out. I go under the register and pull out my copy of Pride and Prejudice and begin reading. I have read this book front to back over ten times. I love it and I wish more than anything to have a life like Elizabeth.

I don't really have a life outside of this. I mean, I have friends and all but I don't party. I don't really do anything bad; I'm innocent in every way. Just a small, tiny girl with a simple life.

The bell rings and I am forced to lift my head from the book. I set the book down and look up, a girl with brown hair walking in with a boy, who looks like her, except dark chestnut curls are on his head. I walk over to her and she smiles.

"Can you help me find a copy of The Catcher in the Rye?" she asks. I nod and she follows me. The boy lingers in the front, eyes glued onto me. I walk to the S section and pull out a new copy, handing it to her.
