"hey, brothers." jessie cheered when he saw baby and kaelin walking towards the table he was sitting at - with a seemingly gorgeous girl with a smile on her face sitting beside him - in the diner blue benn. 

baby and kaelin sat opposite jessie and the girl. baby noticed how wonderful her smile was and the way she looked at jessie. "so, bella, this is kaelin," jessie said, kaelin and the girl named bella shook hands and exchanged greetings, "and this is mil-sorry, this is baby." 

bella slightly furrowed her brows with the same smile and shook hands with miles. he pushed a smile out, just to be polite and control himself. "nice to meet you, baby." bella said. wow, her voice is really something. "who gave you a name like that?" she asked.

"he's been called that since... forever, right, man?" jessie said with a smile, looking at miles. baby nodded. 

"wait, wait..." bella looked into jessie's eyes and then leaned closer to his ear and baby could feel and see and hear the words she spoke without even looking or hearing, "is he mute?"

"no, no, no. he's just very quiet." jessie explained. 

"oh, alright then." bella said and straightened back up in her seat next to jessie. she nodded and smiled wider at baby. he saw her muttering the word 'interesting' to herself.

bella had dark, long hair but many spots were died in pastel colors. while she was talking to kaelin and jessie, miles noticed that every color of the rainbow was in her hair. that's interesting. her eyes were a sparkling blue tone, looking like two blue larimar stones. very beautiful. 

her smile widened and brightened her whole face, baby hadn't noticed that about other people. or maybe he hadn't payed as much attention to other people as he was paying bella now. where did jessie find her?

"sorry?" bella and jessie turned to baby, not sure if he really said something or not.

"where did jessie find you?" baby repeated his question shamelessly. 

"oh, at a party." bella said.

"about a month ago." jessie added. baby raised his eyebrows at that. "well, i didn't tell any of you because i wasn't sure about her yet, but..." jessie looked down at bella who was smiling with a glint of suspicion in her eyes, "now i'm sure." 

"ohh, so that's why you were acting like you were on your period all the time." kaelin said and himself, bella and jessie laughed. baby didn't laugh, he barely tugged his lips up in a slight smile. he didn't think that was very funny, it was just a joke.

"are you ready to order yet?" a waitress had come up to their table with a pencil and a notepad in her hands. she was british. what would an english woman be doing in america?

"i'll have the pancakes, please." baby spoke first. 

"anything to drink?" she asked as she scribbled down words. 

"coffee. black. with sugar." baby said. the waitress nodded and then looked around at the others.

"i'll have pancakes, too." bella said. baby looked at her only to discover she was looking at him with those blue eyes drilling through baby, trying to uncover him and know more. he leaned his back against the chair and looked out the window. "and an orange juice."

"i'll have the classic burger with fries." baby heard jessie say. "and coke."

"i'll have coke, too. and the 'cheese and cheese' burger." kaelin said.

"anything to drink?" the waitress asked. since she didn't say anything else, baby decided kaelin had shook his head. he turned back to his friends to partly join the conversation.

"dude, that waitress! she got looks." kaelin said. jessie and bella laughed. 

"you like her?" baby asked with a smile. kaelin shrugged, but then nodded. "why didn't you do anything?" 

kaelin shrugged again and then laughed. "maybe next time she comes around." baby nodded at his words.

"so, bella, you don't go to our school, right?" kaelin asked bella. 

"i do." she replied.

"really? i've never seen you." kaelin said. he turned to baby. "have you seen her at school?" he asked him. baby shook his head. would have probably noticed someone so outstanding.

"well, i suppose seniors stick together. i'm not a senior." bella said. "i'm a sophomore."

"right." kaelin said. "well, i'm going for a smoke, anyone wanna join?" he asked after a while.

"i'll come." jessie said. bella frowned slightly as jessie moved past her and joined kaelin in walking out of the diner. bella watched both of them until they walked through the door. 

"i hate that he smokes." bella said, looking at baby. "my friends always thought a guy smoking was the best and hottest thing ever." she laughed.

"do you want him to quit?" baby asked. bella nodded. 

"i really like your name." bella said with that wide smile of hers. baby smiled at her. thanks. "but it's not written in your passport, right?" baby didn't even have a passport. but he shook his head. "it would be cute, tho."

baby shrugged with a slight smile. "why are you so quiet?" bella asked. 

"what should i say?" baby asked. now bella shrugged.

"what are you listening to?" she asked.

"queen."

"i love that band! they're like legends." bella exclaimed with a smile. "jess doesn't like them, so he doesn't listen to them."

dump him, baby wanted to say. "what kind of music do you like?" he asked instead. who doesn't like queen?

"rock, definitely." bella replied. "the classics, you know. beatles, nirvana, the cure, pink floyd..."

nice. baby liked her already. he nodded at her words. bella smiled. "you're interesting." she said to him. baby chuckled. 

the waitress came again with their drinks on a plate. she put bella's orange juice, the guys' cokes and baby's coffee at the right places on the table. "thank you." bella said. the waitress nodded and left them alone again. 

"you know," bella started to say as she inspected her glass of juice, "i'm willing to bet anything you have a very interesting story behind that 'quiet-type' mask and those headphones." she looked baby in the eyes with her own narrowed, but they still shone like blue larimars. 

baby only nodded and raised his eyebrows at her, sipping his coffee. 

"i expected you to say 'there's nothing interesting about me'." bella stated.

baby laughed.
