"how can a person lie straight to your face?" bella said softly, looking into baby's eyes. "why do they expect people to believe?"

baby turned his head away and sighed. 

"i'm not any girl who would believe lies." she continued to talk quietly. "but how could i believe..? i don't even know myself."

baby turned his head back to bella, causing his headphone to almost fall out of his ear. "everyone makes mistakes." he said. 

"i know, but... i still can't wrap my head around jessie and how i couldn't see through his lies." bella replied. "i have to be better." she stated. it sounded like she didn't want baby to hear that, but he did.

"what do you mean?" he asked. 

"nothing." bella said, smiling at baby. "i was just talking to myself." she sighed deeply. "baby?"

he raised his eyebrows in response. 

"why are you so good to me?" bella asked. 

"why you ask?"

"i just... want to know." 

baby sighed shortly and quietly. "you deserve better than jessie. i'm not better than him, but i know you could do better." baby said. "i knew that from the moment we first talked. no one deserves you, i think. no one could be good enough for you." not even me. "not even captain america."

bella laughed loudly, her back arching off the bed a little. "do you really think that about me?" she whispered. baby nodded. 

bella found his hand and tangled her fingers through his. 

"you are a jewel, baby." she said. "a rare jewel."

baby smiled. "who do you think deserves you, bella?" he asked out of the blue.

"hmm..." bella hummed, looking up and thinking of all her celebrity crushes. "kurt cobain, maybe?" she said and laughed afterwards. baby rolled his eyes. "i'm just kidding." bella reassured, tracing her thumb over baby's palm. 

"i don 't know, it's a hard question." she said. "perhaps it's you." she said quietly. "but i don't think it's a question you can ask me, because it's about me."

"maybe." baby replied.

"who do you think deserves you?" bella asked him. 

"me?" he questioned. "don't ask me that." baby warned playfully. 

bella laughed. "alright, alright." she said. "i think i deserve you."

"why?" i'd never be good enough for anyone, let alone you.

"because you're just--well, maybe i don't." bella admitted. "you're too good for this world."

"i was gonna say the same about you."

bella turned to baby and smiled wide before kissing him, despite laying upside down. baby smiled into the kiss and moved closer to bella.
