it was friday. the last day of the week, the day of the season-opening game. baby wasn't really looking forward to it, he only hoped this day would go by as fast as possible. unfortunately for him, it would only stretch longer.
"baby." bella nudged his arm. they were in math class, sitting in the same seat as last week. baby turned his head to bella and raised his eyebrows. "can i ask you a question?"
baby nodded. "go ahead."
"what do you say we grab something to eat before the game? jessie has practice before the game, i would've asked him." bella asked with a smile playing on her lips. baby furrowed his eyebrows just for a second.
"yeah, alright." baby agreed, not thinking twice about it. "where?"
"do you like kebabs?"
"kebabs?" baby echoed. bella laughed at how the word sounded when he said it. maybe he'd never said it before?
"yeah, those pakistan spicy burritos." bella put it in simple words.
"um," baby thought for a second. that couldn't be too bad, "sure."
"okay." bella smiled at baby. she was about to ask baby to drive them both to the kebab place, but he spoke first.
"i can dr--take us there, yeah." baby said. bella got confused for a moment, but nodded.
"how did you... know what i was gonna ask?" she asked. baby shrugged.
"instinct." he simply replied.
"alright, mister instinctive guy." bella said just as the bell rang, ending math class. "i'll see you at four thirty."
baby nodded. bella got her things and walked to the classroom's exit, glancing over her shoulder to look at baby before walking out of the room. he only gave her a reassuring smile. he wasn't moving because he had three math classes in a row, that's what bella silently asked. she smiled back at him and walked through the exit door.
the two math classes dragged extremely slow for baby. he and all his classmates had to do many tasks because of a new formula they were learning. baby hated those. he understood math, but why would he need to do tasks to prove that? either way, baby did anything the teacher asked him to.
after math class, school was over for baby. he checked his phone to see the time. it was three fifty. so baby had to wait for bella.
"hey, man, where are you going?" jessie's voice appeared from behind baby. he turned around in the hallway and stopped to wait for jessie.
"to my car." baby said once jessie was close enough to hear him.
"oh? where are you going? the game is in like, two hours."
"well, me and bella are gonna get something to eat and then go to the game."
"ah! right, yeah, she mentioned something about that." jessie said, scratching the back of his head. baby nodded. "well, alright."
"have a good game." baby said to his friend. jessie laughed and patted baby's shoulder.
"thanks, man. i'll see you later." he said and left baby alone in the hallway. baby turned around and walked in the other direction, just to kill even a little bit of time.
baby spent the next thirty minutes in his car lip-syncing and dancing to music. he douldn't do anything else, really. there were no books in his car, he didn't have homework, and there was abviously no tv in his car, either.
"hey, baby." bella said, opening the passenger door and getting in baby's car. baby liked how his name sounded when she said it. the 'y' at the end of his name sounded fuller and stretched out. and the 'b' was rounder and stronger. that's how bella spoke baby's name. "are you ready to go or did i interrupt your private party?"
"umm... n-no, you did not." baby said, starting his car. right. bella hopped in his car while he was dancing to a certain song, but baby stopped once he heard the door slam and the car wiggle at the impact. "where is this pakistan spicy burrito place?" he asked.
bella laughed loudly. "it's right next to the arts center." she said. "and don't worry, i won't judge. i like to dance to music when i'm alone, too."
