The first task

I woke up and almost threw up. The nausea was happening so much that a little part of me was curious to know if I was secretly the next virgin mary. Today was the day. The day of the first task.

Shit

My whole dorm had already gone down, which left me alone to think. Though thinking wasn't always the best thing in my case, especially when I had absolutely no idea what I was about to face. I changed into my Gryffindor shorts and top and stuck on my runners.

I sat on my bed for about 10 minutes before realising I should probably go downstairs and meet the rest of the champions.

I walked slowly downstairs and out into the grounds. There were people all around me wishing me luck and patting me on the back. Someone pushed down hard on my shoulders, but I didn't even have the energy to jump.

"Someone's tired," said a warm voice I knew well. Sirius walked beside me in silence until we reached the tents. His presence was strangely comforting even though he didn't say a word. When we reached the tent, he turned and looked at me.

I felt like he was about to say something until,

"Oh Siri!" called a sickly-sweet voice, I turned to see Valerie Simons, standing a few meters away, hands on her hips. I tried to hold back my laughter as she called him an Iphone app and took some deep breaths. He gave me a small smile and walked away. I sighed and turned into the tent.

Sirius had been going out with Simons for the last few weeks, as I had been going out with Nick for the last few weeks. Though there was a part of me however that wondered how much Nick actually liked me. Recently, Nick had felt more distant towards me, seemingly busy every time I was free. Perhaps the novelty had finally worn off.

I saw Nick and walked over to him. He gave me a nod and hugged me, with a quick peck on the cheek, before turning away and back to his headmaster who was giving him a pep talk in the corner. I sighed again and turned as the judges walked into the tent.

"Could all of the Triwizard champions please step forward" Dumbledore called us all forward and set us in a semi-circle around him.

"The task you are about to face will be challenging in its own way to each of you" He paused for suspense before continuing, " This task is quite easy in skill but hard to find the answer"

Ok, seriously? Why do people always love to create little fucking riddles for you to solve?

"Each champion will be called out and will follow me into your task. You are to find a single glass ball. Oh and remember, things aren't always as it seems."

He gave me a wink before calling out the beauxbatons champion, and she followed him out of the tent, looking extremely nervous.

I resumed pacing up and down. Waiting around was almost worse than going out and getting it over and done with. I bit my lip, sneaking glances over at Nick who seemed to be muttering things under his breath, sitting on a small bed in the corner.

Nick was called up next. He gave me a small smile on the way out and I collapsed on the bed beside his. A half an hour went passed until they called out my name. I slowly stood up and Dumbledore came into the room.

"Ready?" he said softly, eyeing me carefully.

"As I'll ever be" I replied doubtfully, following him out of the tent and into the great hall. Cheers erupted from the Hogwarts students, and I couldn't help smiling at the giant banner James and Sirius were holding up for me.

In the middle of the room was.... well ... another room? It was like a giant box, towering above me but just casually sitting there as if it had always been in that exact place. Dumbledore walked me over to it.
