Truthful Secrets & Forced Arguments

NOEL

I tried my best to shuffle through the people, but there was just too much commotion. People were questioning where Kat ran off to and other's even had the nerve to say she was disrespecting the memorial ceremony by running out.

Let's just say that I gave that person one nasty look and then they decided to shut right up.

No matter how much I called out to her, Kat continued to run in the direction out of the square. I knew that she wouldn't be able to get very far because of her ankle, so if these dame people everywhere would let me through, I would have no problem reaching her.

"Kat! Shit, can you people move-"

Just as I was about the make a break for it, someone grabbed me by my wrist. I fought against it, until I noticed it was Dean trying his best to keep me in place.

"Dude, maybe she needs to be alone right now. With what happened to her mom and all..."

I ripped my hand out of Dean's grip and shook my head. "No, she can't be alone. Not like this."

As if to prove a point, the sky about us started to rumble. Tiny droplets for rain started to fall and people that were in the square started to retreat into their respecting houses while the kids just spun around in circle with glee.

I looked at the sky and back at Dean. I gave him a knowing look and even though he was reluctant, he waved me forward to go after her. Not that Dean was going to have kept me there anyways. I would have gone out there for Kat despite what anyone said.

Since the sky was now pitch black, it was still hard to see and with the rain on top of that, it was next to impossible. Kat must have been a wreck because by the time I reached the edge of the wild forest, I could barely see an inch in front of my face. The rain had drenched my clothes right to the skin and since it was weighing me down, I ditched my shirt by throwing it into the bushes and continued to run through the forest. It wasn't cold because of the hot muggy air of the beginning of summer time, but after awhile the rain started to become brisk.

My feet squashed in the mud as I ran down the deserted path and thankfully, by the time I reached the open field, the rain had started to slow its pace. The clouds continued to rumble quietly, but other than that, there was just a light spiting coming from above. It made me able to see a lot clearer, which was why I could spot the small silhouette sitting on top of the meadow peak.

I walked towards Kat without saying a word and sat closely beside her. I didn't touch her, afraid of disturbing the calm balance that her emotions had just found and just sat with her in silence. I saw that her eyes were red and puffy and instead of acknowledging me, she continued to stare straight in front of her. The clouds had cleared up, revealing a calm purple tinge to the sky and an orange sun that was just about to fall asleep over the horizon. It was a thought stopper to say the least.

"The sunset is beautiful," Kat whispered after a moment, her voice strained.

I looked over at Kat and sighed. She looked miserable. She wore the face of the girl in my dreams and at all costs, that was something I wanted to avoid. Her hair was even more matted because it was now soaking wet and her lips wore a sulk that could put a bottomless pit in your stomach. I hated seeing her like this. Even the mocking smirk that she had when she made fun of me was better than this!

"Gingy, please tell me what's going on," I coaxed her. I didn't mean to be so blunt, but her big brown eyes were starting to brim with tears again and if she broke down, I don't think I'd be able to handle it.
