New Dad & No Label
NOEL
As Kat, Dean and I ran frantically through the forest back to Aubrey, all I felt like doing was cursing myself.
Of course, with my luck, I managed to kiss Kat when Aubrey went into labour! I didn’t even get to say much to Kat afterword because Dean had to come in here screaming ‘Bloody Murder!’
Aubrey was in trouble, so I give him credit for being a good fiancée, but Aubrey couldn’t have picked a better time to pop her kid out, could she?
The trees blew past us as I tried my best to keep up with Dean. I was carrying Kat, so the extra weight was making me tired a lot faster, but I managed to keep up with Dean’s panicked sprint.
On the run, Kat asked, “When did you find her, Dean?”
“I came home from taking Ella and saw Aubrey crumbled on the kitchen floor. I didn’t know what to do, so I called Noel’s mom and she told me to come and get you guys while she took care of Aubrey. Aubrey was just in shock and thankfully, I reached her in time,” Dean answered wearily, without looking back.
Of course my mother was part of this, I thought.
In no time, we reached Dean’s house. When we got to the door, I knew Aubrey was in there from the high pitch screaming coming from inside. I noticed Dean turn white in the face before he gulped down his noticeable fear and stepped inside the house. With Kat in my arms, I followed behind, unsure if I wanted to see Aubrey in this condition. I mean, in real life she could be crazy, and I didn’t want to imagine what she was like when she was pushing out a person. Those were images I didn’t want to picture.
Dean ran to the bedroom door where Aubrey’s cries were coming from and opened it without hesitation. I sneaked in behind with a worried Kat in my arms and suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable.
In the room, there was my mother at the foot of the bed. Aubrey was lying down with beads of sweat and dirt caked on her face, her expression clearly in distress. When we walked in, my mother’s head shot to us and relief washed over her features.
“Thank goodness you came! Kat dear, I need another girl in here to help. For moral support,” She pleaded and then helped take Kat out of arms. I felt cold letting her go, but that really wasn’t a priory right now.
My mother helped lead Kat over to the edge of the bed beside Aubrey, who seemed to be so exhausted that she couldn’t keep her head supported be herself. Once Kat was over by the bed, she grabbed Aubrey’s hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. This woke Aubrey up from her rest and she gave Kat a dry smile.
“Kat, thank the heavens!” Aubrey breathed and then instantly sucked in a breath. She winced and her knuckles went white as she squeezed Kat’s hand with full force. Since she was in labour, it was probably a contraction.
After the pain seemed to subside, Aubrey huffed and leaned back against the head board. She looked around the room and then her eyes became dark and evil once she laid eyes on Dean beside me.
“You IDIOT!” She screeched. “Get out! I don’t want to see your face right now!”
I looked at Dean beside me and saw that his face was pale. He looked extremely hurt by her words, and I was just as shocked to hear Aubrey say something like that when he went all that way to get Kat and I (and went through the trouble of interrupting us…)
I scratched my head in confusion. “Uh, Aubrey, are you sure you want to-“
“Kat can stay. MY CRAZY OF A HUSBAND WHO GOT ME INTO THIS MESS CAN GET THE HELL OUT!”
