Pushing Luck & Dream Gods
NOEL
I didn't take my eyes off that portal the moment I stepped back onto my familiar ground. For ten, twenty minutes I decided to wait for her, trusting that Kat soon would show herself again, smiling and hopeful about our new adventure together.
The longer I waited, the antsier I became, but I trusted her. I gave her my word that I would and she gave me hers. She promised.
I chuckled to myself. That Dexter guy didn't have a clue who he was messing with. Seeing his face after I kissed Kat right in front of him was priceless and I would never be able to get that jealous look of his out of my mind. I knew that I was going to get an earful from Kat when she got back because of my so called 'inappropriate behaviour', but it was worth it.
I would say that Mr. Rich Boy got what he deserved, so I would definitely not feel guilty about what I did. This whole time that Kat was with me, he had been cheating on her with some other girl. This was a good point to make about how much better I was for Kat and that her life with me would be a positive turnaround. No more misery and rain showers, just happiness and sunny skies.
I glanced back at the portal again. As seconds ticked by, I found myself becoming even antsier than before. It had gotten so bad that I couldn't find myself to sit still. When I started to pace, I knew that I was overacting. She asked for my trust and what was I doing?
She told me not to worry and here I was absolutely worrying about her!
I shifted my eyes to the opening in the hedge again. I mean, one little peak won't hurt would it? Kat was probably saying her final goodbyes and then she would be back with me in no time. It wouldn't hurt just to take a rain check to make sure that Pretty Boy didn't cross the line. He already had his chance with her and now it was my turn. Plain and simple.
Carefully and quickly, I opened the portal back up so that I could easily slide right through it. Passing through teleportation was a strange feeling, but having done it so many times before, I got used to the awkward sensation. In a matter of seconds, I could smell the fresh cut hedges and the stench of exotic, overpriced flowers. Yup, I was definitely in flicker territory.
"I'm glad to be back and I'm here to stay."
Kat's quiet tone was barely audible, but I heard it as if someone had shouted it into my ear. I would have thought that I imagined it, but when I caught a glimpse over the hedge, my ears were proven right.
That evil woman was there, the one Kat talked about. Dexter's mother. Kat and she were across from each other, but Kat's back was to me, so I couldn't see her face. And I never got the chance. In a rush, Kat smoothed out her dress that Aubrey had given her a lifetime ago before running in the direction of the giant, stone palace.
The evil woman smiled a smile I couldn't even shake and I hid deeper into the hedge before discreetly traveling back through the portal.
"Fucking fantastic," I muttered and tried to keep myself from losing control. I was pacing dramatically in front of The Wall and felt the sudden urge to attack something. And by something, I meant a certain rich boy and his selfish family.
'I promise that I'll come back, Noel.' What the hell was that? She was not coming back and she just wanted to lead me on just so she could get home to Mr. Rich Boy and his stuck up family!
What was worse was that she said she loved me and she didn't even having the guts to tell me to my face. She just ran.
Two could play at that game.
