Bitter End & Desperate Cravings
KAT
When I was in the sixth grade, I was forced to play sports in school because I was told that it would give me 'athleticism'. I had always complained and I was never built to run or play any physical sports. I didn't hate it, but my body would always give up.
Running at full speed through a dark forest with Dean on my tail was like some horrible sport that my body was forced to play. It was giving out on me with every step that I took, but I had to push forward. The drive that I had ever since we left Meredith's house to drop off Luna was still burning within me and the closer we got to The Wall, the fast I tried to run. In the dark, it was very difficult to navigate, but Dean somehow could warn me of obstacles from behind. Thank goodness or else I would probably have another broken ankle again.
I knew that Nora had something to do with Noel being missing. I didn't know for sure, but she just had to be. Noel and Aubrey wouldn't have just vanished in the middle of the night without a word. What was still puzzling me was why Aubrey was gone. Was she taken too?
"Your assumption better be right, Kitty Kat or I might just lose it." Dean's voice sounded angry and it sounded clear as day even though we had already ran a mile. I was caught off guard, since Dean never sounded angry. I never thought that he knew how to be angry because he was just so happy-go-lucky and positive despite any circumstance. Well, aside from this circumstance...
"I know it's her," I panted while lightly tripping over a stray tree root. "I don't know why she would have Aubrey, but I know that this is all part of getting to me. I just know it."
I managed to run another mile or two (I lost count, I was too busy caring for my dying lungs) before we finally reached a familiar land mark: the cabin. I practically threw myself at the ground in happiness because once we saw the cabin, The Wall wasn't too far away. Noel and Aubrey, we are almost there!
Dean ran ahead of me to get to the portal, but I had to stop. I was on the verge of passing out. "Wait!" I called.
Dean turned around quickly, his glowing eyes exasperated. "I wanted to apologize," I added.
I coughed to gain oxygen as Dean threw his hands in the air, frustrated. "Apologize? Kat this isn't the time!"
"You shouldn't have to be dealing with all of this!"
Dean shook his head and placed a strong hand on my shoulder. "Let's just get them back, alright? We can do this."
Seeing Dean's look of determination made me feel a little scared. I didn't want him getting hurt, him nor Aubrey. "Nora has had people killed, Dean. She's has people like you killed!" I pleaded.
"What, are you saying that I need to sit out here while my wife and the mother of my child is lost in a place where she could die? I don't think so!"
Dean's eyes turned sad and that was when I wanted to hit myself. Of course there was no use arguing about this. If people asked me to stay back home while my family was in danger, I would fight against them and go anyway. Who was I to ask Dean of this?
Knowing that I lost the argument, I gestured Dean to move forward and without a word, I followed behind. In the quiet sounds of the forest, I could feel the hairs on my neck stand on end and when we finally reached The Wall, my nervousness only got worse.
Dean cleared his throat. "Okay, when I go in, don't come in right away. I want to check it out first."
"Um, no. I'm coming in right after you. Noel is in there too."
