Broom Closets & Goose Aches
DEXTER
"What do you mean that she's gone?"
"We've search everywhere, Sir; The garden, around the gates and all through the palace. I'm sorry, but Kathleen is nowhere to be found."
Well, this is just the cherry on the cake. Half of Payne's Landing is at a loss of power due to the storm, I witnessed my father commit murder and to top it all off, my fiancée is missing after we just had a major fight.
Way to go, Dexter. Way to ruin everything.
I sighed and rubbed my face with my hand. "It's late, but tomorrow, we are sending a search party out into the city to find her. And please, don't inform my parent's or her family about this. The last thing we need is more commotion."
After the palace guards nodded their heads in respect, I was left alone. The palace was dark now that the day was coming to an end. Dinner had just finished and when I saw that Kat was nowhere to be seen at the table, I knew something was up. She never missed a meal, even if they fought, so when I saw that her chair was empty, I had to get to the bottom of this.
The Kat I knew wouldn't just run off without a word. She would tell someone and even if she ran away, she couldn't have gotten far passed the palace gates before someone noticed her.
This of course made me feel even guiltier.
I could be the reason that she ran away in the first place. After all, we did fight right before she vanished and if it wasn't for me pushing her to tell me what was wrong, she wouldn't have been so mad at me. I just wanted to help her when she was upset, is that too much to ask?
I closed my eyes and exhaled. Yeah, it is. She's been through enough already with my mother beating her down, my father pressuring her and all her other family problems that she has to deal with. The last thing she needed was her 'soon to be not wanted husband' nagging at her.
"God, I'm such a flipping idiot," I muttered to myself. Little did I know that I wasn't the only one in this deserted palace hall.
"She couldn't have gone too far," Karina murmured from behind me. When I turned to look at her, I was sort of taken aback. Her dark chocolate brown hair flowed just above her shoulders in curly waves and her blue floral dress hugged her body just right. She was a sight, I could admit that.
I blinked a few times and shook my head at her. "You knew that she was gone too?" I asked.
Karina raised an eyebrow. "Don't think that I missed you checking me out Sir Prince. You're getting married, shame on you."
My jaw bobbed up in down stupidly as I stared at her shocked. Karina just giggled before quickly grabbing me by the arm and dragging me down the hall. The next thing I know, we are standing in one of the many broom closets we have in the palace.
I coughed a few times as we entered into the surprisingly spacious room. From wall to wall, there was cleaning supplies, but for a being a janitor's closet, it was pretty dusty. Karina pulled me by the elbow until we were both standing in the middle of the room. I turned on the light switch and gestured my hands to ask her why the hell we were in a cleaning closet. Karina's answer was unexpected.
She smacked me of the back of the head. Hard.
"Hey! What did I do?" I questioned while tenderly rubbing my brand new sore spot.
"Oh come on, you and I both know that Kat is gone and it most definitely wasn't me who made her vanish. What did you do this time, pretty boy?" Karina's foot starts tapping while she gave me a stern look and this look was definitely lethal.
