...
I open my eyes and notice that the sky is still dark behind the curtains. I sit upright on the bed and turn to look at the serene sleeping face next to me. A small smile forms without me noticing.
I trace the lines of his face. He grumbles in his sleep before turning his body the other way. I let out a quiet chuckle.
Although some time has passed, I am glad that he doesn't press for answers about his other body.
I want him to stay ignorant.
There's no need to give him unnecessary pain.
He doesn't have to know.
He doesn't have to know anything.
He doesn't have to know that we found his body buried under an unfinished construction site.
I clench my fist when I remembered the call I received that night.
It was late around now.
I recalled it vividly like its yesterday. When I got to the site, they had already called a few people to help dig out the body. When they pulled him out, I ran to his body and pushed the others away. I wiped the dirt off his face.
He looked pale. His body was cold and stiff. I hugged him tighter. I lashed out on everyone that tried to get closer.
That bartender guy approached me that time. He looked at the body with regret then he turned to look at me.
"Don't worry. You will meet him again,"
At that time, I thought he was trying to console me but now... he's sleeping next to me.
I slip under the bed and wrap myself around him. He feels warm and I can feel his body heaving.
He's with me now. Everything is all right.
He doesn't have to know what happened to that bastard.
He doesn't have to know that it took several efforts just to stop me from killing the asshole.
I tighten my hold when I feel the anger bubbling inside of me.
As if he notices me angry, his body turns around to face mine before burying himself deeper into my arms. Again, the small gesture of his made me smile a little.
Yeah, he doesn't have to know that the bastard wished for death but I wouldn't let him die easily. It was only until his body could no longer hold on is when he found his freedom.
"Ryan?"
"Yeah, sayang,"
"Why are you still up? Sleep. It's late," He mumbles and buries his head to my chest once more.
I adjust my position but also make sure that he's comfortable and close my eyes.
I will make sure he'll never know anything unnecessary. He also doesn't need anyone to remind him of that horrible life. I'll protect him from those and make sure that no harm will fall on him.
The corner of my lips lift up for a moment before I relax and submerge myself in my dream hoping to find him there too.

"Epilogue"
Five years has passed.
I'm sitting on my desk as I try to finish my final report for this semester.
I am currently trying to finish my degree and juggle between school, work, and home. When I say work, there's not really much to do compared to the first two years.
