"So. You two are a thing." Tony says once we are outside of the meeting room. Feeling my face flush immediately I turn towards him.
"That noticeable?" Dick chuckled wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me close. Blushing even deeper I lay my head against his arm.
"Definitely. I mean you don't look at someone like that unless there are feelings involved. And I don't mean feelings as in best friend feelings." Tony rambles as we continue to walk down the corridor. "But be warned kid. You hurt her there's a whole bunch of agents here who will gladly shove their boots down your throat." He continues not noticing my jaw drop at his threat.
"Tony!" I groan and roll my eyes, sparing a glance up at Dick who looks amusedly at the billionaire walking before us.
"Just being honest Kitten. Half of SHIELD would go to war for you. But on a less emotional note I do have to get going. Pepper has made it known that she does not appreciate being woken up in the middle of the night when I return." He chuckles turning to face us as he continues to walk towards the exit.
"Okay Stark, tell Pepper I said hello and that we definitely need to hang out again sometime." I call to him as he turns back and exits.
"He seems nice." Dick chuckles as I pull him into the mess hall.
"He is. A bit odd but nice none the less." I sigh a small smile lifting my face. "Come on lets grab some food before the decide to close up on us." I tell him pulling him over to the serving areas. Greeting the people as the fill our trays I keep a tight hold on his hand.
"So how are you feeling about being back home?" He asks me as we find a booth and I finally release his warm and comforting hand.
"Honestly." I pause trying to find the words to explain how I felt. Of course I am glad about being back everyone here means so much to me but there was something off about being back. When I arrived here everyone welcomed me with open arms and it became home to me very quickly.
"I am so happy to be back, don't get me wrong, but something just feels off." I shrug beginning to eat the food that had been placed on my plate, although I'm not quite sure what it is. Tastes a little like chicken though.
"Can I ask you something Chesh?" Dick asks placing his hand under his immaculate jaw. Glancing up at him I gave him a nod. "That first night in the mansion you mentioned you had just broken up with your boyfriend. Was it someone on the team?" He asked, his crystalline eyes looking into my greyish blue. Swallowing the food in my mouth and clearing my throat I nod a yes to him. "May I ask who? It's okay if you don't want to tell me, it's just when we got here you started behaving a little differently." He continues grasping the hand I had placed on the table.
"No, it's fine I don't mind telling you. Besides you have a right to know if we are all going to be working together." I sigh running my thumb across his gloved hand. "After I arrived here I met the team but The Captain and I hit it off in a different way. After a few months we became an item it was nice while it lasted. But the same day I arrived in Gotham just before that he dumped me. He is actually the entire reason I ended up in your universe. I got emotional I wished I could disappear, be anywhere but here, and my wish came true." I shrugged as I finished my story. Glancing up at him I see him watching me, the tips of ears red as he holds my hand tightly.
"I guess I owe him some form of a thank you." He chuckles glancing away from me. "But it really is his loss. He gave up one of the most amazing women I have ever met." He says glancing back up at me after a second.
"Come on, let's go get some rest." I tell him as a steady blush creeps across my cheeks. Standing he helps me out of the booth grabbing both of our trays before we walk out of the mess hall. Grasping his hand I turn to the door, not hearing it open I walk face first into what feels like a brick wall. With an 'oomph' I bounce back into Dick's arms. Glancing up at him with a grateful smile I turn back to the door to see what the obstacle was, or should I say who the obstacle was. Glancing up I see a set of familiar blue eyes looking back at me belonging to none other than Steve.
"Sorry Steve. I wasn't paying attention." I apologize as Dick helps me right myself, his hand still intertwined with mine.
"It's no problem. I'm glad to see you made it back safely." He says eyes still locked on my face as I start to fidget around becoming a little uncomfortable.
"It's nice to meet you Captain, my name Nightwing." Dick interjects, lifting his hand out between us, feeling me fidget next to him. Steve's eyes finally leave me as he looks at Dick's outstretched hand before taking it in his, squeezing it a little to tight for my comfort. But Dick doesn't back down, gripping his hand just as firm. Feeling the tension in the room increase I interrupt their stare down.
"I'm glad you two have met, but Nightwing and I were going to call it a night." I announce snapping both of their focus back to me. With a curt nod they both release the others hand, Steve steps into the cafeteria allowing Dick and I to pass as the door slides shut behind us.
"So that was your ex?" Dick asks as we walk back down the corridor, with a sigh I nod my head.
"Yeah. I'm sorry about him. It's probably odd for him seeing me with someone else so soon. Although I've had a week to get over it he's only had an hour or two." I shrug as I guide him to my dorm.
"That is true, but isn't he the one who called it off in the first place?" He asks keeping pace with me as we approach my door.
"That is also true." I sigh shaking my head as I put in the code to open up my quarters. "I don't understand him. But at this very moment I don't care." I shrug dragging him over to my bed.
"What!? The worrywart herself doesn't care!" He gasps dramatically as he flops down on top of the blankets on my bed.
"I'm not a worrywart!" I scoff throwing a pillow at him before I crawl in next to him.
"Sorry to break it too you Honey. But you are most definitely a worrywart, but it's occasionally endearing." He chuckles as he pulls me into his side and rests his cheek on the top of my head.
"At least it's endearing." I mock as I rest my head on his arm.
"Yeah, plus your my worrywart I think it's sweet that you worry so much about everyone you care about. I wouldn't have you any other way." He sighs as he begins to drift off to sleep.
Watching him out of the corner of my eye I begin to fall as well.
'Welcome home Kitten. The time is almost here. It's almost time for you to make your decision.' The voice I have come to hate whispers to me.
' I am coming and you will fight by my side. I will watch you as you as cut down your friends and your family. You can't stop me Kitten.' The voice continues as I feel myself spiral downwards into the darkness.
