Chapter Twenty One

Kayla's Pov
"Simon, wait!" Clary says as we catch Simon about to walk out of the institute.

"What's going on?" Simon asks

"We need your help" Jace says

"The Book of the White. It contains the spell that can wake my mom, but she hid it so Valentine can never find it." Clary tells him

"We have a lead." I say. Clary then shows him the bookmark.

"The Bookmark of the White?" Simon asks

"It's a piece of the book itself. Magnus tracked its owner to the Hotel DuMort, but..it belongs to Camille." Clary says explaining

"Okay, um..I'll set a meeting with Raphael." Simon says

"Thank you" she says and Simon leaves.

I head back to the room where Alec is. I sit on the edge of the bed and take my heels off. I stand up and I unzip my dress letting it fall to the ground.  I step out of hit and put it on a hanger hanging it up.

I put on some jeans and a crop top and layed down next to Alec. I place my head on his chest and he pulls me in close. I can't shake the feeling that Maryse now hates me.

"Alec do you think your mom hates me now" I ask him sitting up.

"Kayla she doesn't hate you. She's just in shock about the news, I think everyone is. Like my dad said give her some time she'll come around. Hey don't worry if my dad can still see your the same person then so can she" Alec says sitting up grabbing my hands.

"Yeah but your dad is more understandable when it comes to these things, your mom not so much." I say

"Hey relax she doesn't hate you. Even if she did or does I wouldn't care because I love you and that's all that matters" he says

"I love you Alec Lightwood" I say

"I love you too Kayla Lightwood" he says causing me to smile big. That's something I can get used to hearing.

"We should probably go talk to Lydia and thank her. She's a big part and reason why this happened" I say

"Yeah your right come on let's go" Alec says and we leave the room.

We look all around the institute and couldn't find her. Everyone we asked if they knew where she was said they hadn't heard from her or seen her since the wedding. We walked up to Maryse to see if she had seen or heard from her since we hadn't asked her yet.

"Have you spoken with Lydia? No one's seen her since the wedding." I say to Maryse. However she just continues what she's doing and ignore me.

"Mom, come on." Alec says

"Maryse"  Robert says walking over. I guess he seen what's happening

"Mom, I understand you're upset, but this is... " Alec starts

"I can't believe someone I helped raise is Valentine's daughter. The daughter of a monster. Now she's married into the family. No one in the shadow world will trust us now." Maryse says
