JESS’S POV

After the divorce my dad has been living in an apartment, so I don’t stay with him very often because there isn’t much room for me there. I hate staying with my mum because I hate my step dad Jason, he treats me like dirt and he favours his son, Louis. ‘Hey dad, what’s up? I miss you!’ I was so glad to have a call from dad.

‘Hey bub, I’m pretty good thanks. I’ve got some news for you; can you come out to dinner?’ Dad sounded happy, so I assumed it was good news. ‘Yeah, tonight?’ I asked eager to catch up.

‘It’s a plan!’ Dad said, ‘I’ll swing by in half an hour.’

‘See you soon dad, love you.’

‘Bye.’ He said before hanging up the phone. I finished up my homework then went up to my room. After Louis moved in I was forced to move into the tiny spare room, he got my room because he was older. I pulled out my jeans, my new vans and one of my favourite tops. I got changed and quickly put up my hair. I jumped on my laptop and logged on, I got a Skype call, and it was from Jai. I answered it.

‘Hey Jai,’ I smiled I loved calling him.

‘Hey babe,’ he replied smiling back, ‘what are you dressed up for?’

‘I’m going out to dinner,’ Jai frowned, ‘with my dad.’ I added, ‘He said he had some news for me, it didn’t sound like bad news, but it is something big. I’m a little nervous.’ I looked at Jai who was listening intently.

‘Don’t stress babe. I miss you! Are you coming to Skip’s?’

‘Of course I am, I miss you so much!’ There was a knock at the door, ‘I’ve got to go, bye!’ I said slamming the laptop and running for the door. ‘Hey kiddo!’ dad said grinning. I smiled and gave him a massive hug. ‘Ready to go?’ he asked looking around. ‘Yes! Where are we going?’ I asked jumping into the passenger seat.

‘Thai,’ dad said turning on the ignition. I was so excited; I hadn’t gone to Thai with dad in such a long time. Dad had made reservations so we went straight to our table. Dad and I ordered and after no time our meals came out, we both jumped straight in, I didn’t know about dad but I was starving. ‘So what is going on dad?’ I said taking a break from my food. ‘So I’ve bought a house, it’s near a place where I’ve been offered a job’ dad said smiling.

‘Why did you have to bring me out to a restaurant to tell me?’ I asked a little confused, I had a feeling there was going to be more. ‘I bought a house with three bedrooms, enough for the two of us and a spare room.’ I smiled that was great news I would finally get to live with dad. I was brought down from the hype by the thought of location. ‘Where is it dad?’ I asked cautiously, I had no idea if I wanted to know the answer. Dad sighed,

‘It’s in Glen Roy,’ he said getting back to his meal.

‘What?’ I yelled excitedly.

‘Yeah, Glen Roy,’ dad looked happy to see me excited, ‘I looked at local schools, the house is quite close to Penola College.’ I couldn’t believe this was happening, everything couldn’t be more perfect. ‘I got the keys to the house today, we can move in tomorrow.’ Dad sounded excited now, we continued eating. We didn’t order desert because there was the best ice cream shop around the corner. ‘Well most of my stuff is already in storage so moving will be easy’ I said before licking a bit of melting ice cream. ‘I will need Thursday to pack up the rest of my stuff then I’ll move in with you on Friday.’ Dad and I couldn’t stop smiling we were so happy.

‘I’ve missed you so much darling,’ dad said as we hopped into the car.

‘I can’t wait to move in!’ I said still grinning. On the way home dad and I sang to the radio, we laughed at each other, because let’s face it dad and I aren’t the best singers. Before getting out of the car I gave dad a kiss on the cheek, ‘The van will come and pick up your stuff tomorrow, then I’ll bring the trailer around on Thursday and we’ll drive to Glen Roy.’ Dad and I hugged and I walked u to the house, I waved until his card was out of sight.

‘Where have you been?’ Mum shouted as soon as I walked through the door.

‘I went out to dinner with dad.’ I replied rolling my eyes, she never approved of anything I did.

‘And how is your father?’ Mum asked folding some washing.

‘Great,’ I replied, ‘He’s bought a house and I’m moving in with him.’ I added walking to my room after picking up my laptop. ‘What do you mean?’ Mum yelled, ‘Jessica get back here now!’

‘No it’s my life and I hate it here! I’m living with dad and there’s nothing you can do about it!’ I screamed slamming the door, I was upset but realising what I was doing made me feel better. I picked up the phone and dialled Jai’s number I could barely contain my excitement. ‘Hey Jess,’ Jai answered.

‘I’m moving to Glen Roy!’ I shouted I was so excited.

‘What do you mean?’ Jai asked, I could tell he was confused.

‘My dad has been looking for a house for ages, he found one…. In Glen Roy!’

‘What about your friends?’ Jai asked, concerned. ‘Have you thought this through Jess?’ I couldn’t believe his negativity; did he not want me to move? ‘I have, my friends will understand. I hate staying with my mum, and I hate my step dad. I’ve wanted to move in with dad for so long, it’s just that there was never enough room in his apartment for me.’

‘Sounds awesome babe, we will be able to see each other all the time!’ Jai was much more supportive now, I realised he only wanted what was best for me. ‘Yeah and dad got me a spot at Penola!’ I couldn’t stop smiling I was so happy. ‘That’s so awesome! When are you moving?’

‘I’ll be starting on Friday!’

‘Cool, well I’ve got to go Jess. But come over to my house Friday morning so we can walk to school together?’

‘It’s a date,’ I said, ‘Bye!’ And with that I hung up the phone and started packing my stuff into boxes dad had gave me.
