Chapter 37

BEAU’S POV

Jai texted me to say they were on his way back, Jess’ dad said she could stay the night. I double checked with mum that it was okay she spent the night, along with Amy. Mum was cool with the girls staying the night, I texted Jai to let him know it was fine. I couldn’t wait to see Jess; I hope she’s okay after today. After a few minutes there was a knock at the door, ‘I’ll get it!’ I yelled making my way to the front door, mum was cooking and Luke and Amy were in his bedroom. I opened the door to find Jai carrying two bags, ‘hey,’ I smiled weakly, Jai looked a little disappointed. I let him in; I looked at the door way, shocked. There was Jess, walking through the door, ‘Jess!’ I yelled giving her a massive hug. She smiled back, ‘hey Beau!’ She replied chirpily, Amy and Luke ran into the room. They stood there, gobsmacked, I understood why Jess didn’t tell us. Luke and Amy’s faces were absolutely priceless. Jess walked into the house and shut the door behind her, Luke ran up to her at full pace. ‘Jess!’ He yelled giving her a hug, ‘look at you,’ he said inspecting her. Jess then walked across the living room to where Amy was standing. She gave her a massive hug, they smiled and squealed. The two of them had been through so much together; it was nice to see Jess regaining so much of her independence. Once Jess and Amy settled down Jess turned around to look at Jai, Luke and I. ‘I’m just going to say hi to Gina,’ Jess said making her way to the kitchen. ‘Gosh,’ I heard mum say from the kitchen. They then quietened down, I looked around the room, and all 4 of us were smiling. I don’t think any amount of bad news could bring us off this high. Jess walked back in, the same smile was still glued to her face, and it was contagious. I helped Luke and Jai drag a whole heap of mattresses into the living room. I walked into the kitchen to see mum serving up dinner; there were eight plates full of pasta. ‘Are you feeding an army mum?’ I joked; mum had a laugh before replying.

‘No quite, I’m just feeding the Janoskians and some friends.’ I looked at mum and smiled. ‘I called James and Daniel and invited them over, we need to celebrate!’ Mum continued, she had also grown very close to Jess. I think Jess appreciated being able to talk to mum considering she didn’t really talk to hers anymore. ‘They’ll be here any minute, tell the boys to get out two more mattresses.’ I nodded and went back into the living room, I signalled for Luke to come with me. We were going to need to get the extra mattresses out of the garage. ‘What’s up?’ Luke asked as he followed me to the garage. ‘Mum invited James and Skip over too,’ I said grabbing the mattresses out, Luke smiled and we carried one each back into the living room. ‘What are you doing?’ Jai asked as we put the mattresses down on the floor. I was about to explain but I was cut off by knocking at the door. Jai jumped up and answered it, ‘hey Jai,’ Skip and James said in sync as they walked through the front door. Jai looked a little confused, but he soon smiled realising that the boys were going to be spending the night. James and Skip put their bags on the floor and mum called us to dinner. We all squished around the table and started eating. Everyone praised mum after dinner, it was really good. I helped mum with the dishes before joining everyone in the living room. James and Skip were talking to Jess about her back, they were really impressed with how well she was doing, and so were we.

We spent the night just chatting, laughing and sharing stuff that we had found on the internet.

JAI’S POV

It was starting to get quite late; we all decided to call it a night. Beau crashed on one couch and Skip slept on the other, Luke and Amy chose mattresses next to each other, which left Jess and I on the double mattress. Everyone had lied down and was starting to go to sleep, but Jess was still sitting up, she couldn’t have looked more awake. I grabbed her hand and we stood up, I took her to my room. ‘Are you alright Jess?’ I asked closing the door behind me. She nodded weakly, ‘yeah I’m just…’

‘Scared?’ I finished her sentence for her; I could see the fear in her eyes. She nodded and sat on the floor; I walked over and sat next to her. Jess sighed and rested her head on my shoulder. ‘I love you Jai,’ she said looking up into my eyes. I smiled, ‘I love you more beautiful,’ Jess smiled and blushed. I really wanted to kiss her, but I held myself back, I was going to wait until she was ready. This thought was interrupted by Jess’s lips crashing against mine. Jess pulled back and smiled, so you ready for bed?’ I asked standing up and offering her my hand. Jess nodded and got up, we made our way back to the living room. We hopped into bed and drifted off to sleep.

-The next day-

I opened my eyes to see Jess still fast asleep in front of me. She looked beautiful, as always, I gave her a light kiss on the waist before wrapping my arms around her. Everyone else was still fast asleep, so I lied and watched Jess sleep.
