Chapter 39

ASHLEIGH’S POV

‘Ashleigh can you get the door!’ My mum yelled, I ran from the kitchen and answered the door. There stood Jess, I didn’t know what to think, questions rolled around in my mind, along with the realisation that she was walking without a frame. ‘Jess!’ I exclaimed giving her a hug before letting her inside. ‘How are you?’ I asked as we walked up to my room. ‘Awesome!’ She exclaimed and we sat down. ‘So how did you guys go in Canada?’ Jess asked excitedly, I shrugged, I couldn’t tell her how well Amie, Amber and I had done. Because I was the one who stripped her of her dream. My mistake had left her in this state, not once but twice. ‘Alright,’ I answered half heartedly. Jess nodded her head and an awkward silence came over the two of us. I had no idea what to say to Jess, but it was so painful to sit here and watch her suffer like this. I don’t understand how she can be so okay with everything, I’d be so mad if someone had done that to me. ‘Ash are you okay?’ Jess asked, breaking my train of thoughts. I shook my head, my face burned up and I felt tears well up in my eyes. ‘I’m so sorry Jess!’ I exclaimed, a tear escaped my eye.

‘What do you mean Ash?’ She asked putting her arm around me.

‘I’m sorry, for taking away the single most important thing to you, twice.’ I said, Jess gasped and turned me to face her. ‘Ash!’ Was the first thing that escaped her lips before she started to cry too. ‘Is that why you’ve been avoiding me?’ She asked, I nodded as tears began to race down my cheeks. She looked at me with sympathetic eyes; I was confused, she wasn’t mad at me? ‘Ash, you need to understand that the only person I blame for this situation is Hannah.’ I looked at her confused, what did Hannah have to do with any of this? She was making absolutely no sense at all; after all I was the one who left her alone. ‘She was the one who hit me, I’m sorry, I thought you knew,’ Jess said. I was horrified, she knew who did it to her, but she took no action against her. ‘Ash I’m so sorry that I let you feel responsible for this mess,’ Jess said, she had calmed down a lot. I rested my head on her shoulder, and we sat in silence. It wasn’t awkward, it was pleasant, and I knew that we would be okay. ‘I’ve missed you,’ Jess said after a while, I couldn’t help but smile. ‘So Ash, how did you really go in Canada?’ Jess asked, I couldn’t help but laugh.

‘Amazing!’ I said, Jess squealed with excitement. ‘Amie won bars, Amber won vault and I won beam,’ I said, Jess had a massive smile on her face. ‘I’m so proud of you!’ She said giving me a massive bear hug.

‘Can’t breathe,’ I mumbled into her shoulder before she released me again.

‘Sorry,’ Jess laughed.

JESS’S POV

Ash and I spent the day together, mainly just catching up. I felt so bad that I hadn’t talked to her earlier, I had no idea she felt responsible. But it’s okay now, we worked it all out. Beau came back to Ash’s house and picked me up at 1ish, we had lunch in Mount Eliza before heading home. ‘How was your day?’ Beau asked, he kept his eyes glued to the road. ‘It was great, it was a long overdue visit,’ I said nodding my head. Beau smiled.

‘So how was your day Beau?’ I asked curiously.

‘It was awesome,’ Beau said with a big grin. ‘I went down to Sorrento back beach like you suggested, and the waves were amazing! And I barely got recognised so I got to spend the whole time on the waves.’ Beau smiled, I think he appreciated getting the chance to spend time outside by himself.

Beau pulled up outside his house and we got out of his car, Beau offered to drop me home. I decided to take him up on his offer but first I needed to pack up my things. ‘I’ll be right back,’ I said to Beau who remained seated in the car. I made my way to the front door, it was open so I let myself in. ‘Hey Jess,’ Jai greeted me with a hug and a kiss. I smiled and continued to his room. ‘Hey, I’m just on my way home,’ I said packing up my things. Jai made puppy dog eyes at me, ‘please don’t go,’ he whined, I laughed at him. ‘I’ll see you soon,’ I said giving him a hug before going on my tippy toes to give him a kiss on the forehead. ‘Bye beautiful,’ Jai said waving from his front door, I smiled and waved after piling my luggage into Beau’s car.

I thanked Beau as I got out of the car and I waved as I watched his car drive off into the distance. I opened the door and threw my things in my room. I sighed and sat down on the couch, life is great I thought to myself. I smiled at the thought of all that I have.
