Chapter 26

JESS’S POV

The next week was as normal as it was going to get. I spent the day at home doing nothing, and then going to Physical Therapy. It wasn’t that bad though, I was making progress and that was what was most important. I could get changed on my own, that was probably the most satisfying thing.

Dad dropped Jai and I off at Physical Therapy, today would mark my fifth session. At the end of the session, the doctor said what I was dying to hear. ‘Jess, you’re progressing remarkably we’ll be swapping that chair for the frame today.’ Jai and I looked at each other and smiled, I was so excited. Jai and I walked out to dad, it took a while because I’m a little slow, but I didn’t care. Dad gave me a massive hug and we walked out to the car. The doctor said that I would keep up Therapy; it was going to stay as every other day for the moment. It was a Saturday night; Jai invited me over for the night. Dad said that was cool, he was so proud of how far I’d come in such a small space of time. We stopped at my house; I grabbed clothes, my pillow, some movies and some food. Then Dad dropped Jai and I back at his place.

LUKE’S POV

Jai walked in, followed by Jess, but she wasn’t in the wheelchair. I was so excited they’d let her walk with the frame. I ran up and gave her a massive hug. ‘I’m so proud of you!’ I shouted. She just looked at me and smiled. I went and sat on the couch, Jess made her way over and sat down too. ‘Thanks so much,’ Jess said looking straight and Jai and I. ‘The two of you, thank you so so so so so so so so much for always being here for me. I wouldn’t have been able to do anything without yous.’ She walked over and gave me a hug before giving Jai a hug. We both smiled, we had been able to make a difference in her life. Beau came into the living room, he had packets and packets of junk, and he threw them onto the coffee table. Jess laughed, ‘Are those what I bought like a month ago?’ She asked. Beau nodded opening the packet of Pods. We watched a few movies and ate all of the junk, I had to be quick otherwise Jess ate them all. Jai and I pulled some mattresses into the living room and put them on the floor, Beau slept on the couch, Jess, Jai and I slept on mattresses on the floor. We lied awake chatting for ages, not really about anything in particular, it was nice. Most girls would just freak out at us and treat us differently, but Jess just chatted and joked with us boys.

-The next day-

LUKE’S POV

In the morning Jess and I woke up before Jai and Beau, Jess and I hatched a plan. I grabbed ice and cold water and Jess grabbed out her phone, I threw half the water on Beau and the other half on Jai. Jess and I were in absolute hysterics, as you can imagine neither Jai nor Beau was very impressed. After they calmed down Beau drove us down to McDonalds for breakfast.

We got recognised and some girls asked for photos, we took the photos and then lined up for food. Some of the girls started making really rude comments about Jess walking with a frame, she heard them too. Jai, Beau and I looked around for the girls that were making the comments, Jess noticed, ‘it’s fine, I can handle it,’ Jess said smiling. Jai and I glared at them, but it only made them talk a little quieter, I could tell they were still talking about her. Jess nudged me, ‘stop it Luke, seriously its okay.’ It was frustrating me so much though, how could they say that about her. Jai was getting really pissed, after we ordered Beau walked over to the group of girls. He was really calm, he even managed to get them to come over and apologise. Jess told them what had happened to her, they were absolutely horrified and they seemed genuinely sorry.

After eating breakfast we headed back home. ‘Have you got ant plans for the day Jess?’ I asked from the front seat.

‘Nope,’ Jess said. ‘Why do you boys?’

‘Not that I’m aware of,’ I replied. ‘We can hang around the house.’

When we got home we packed up the mess we had made in the living room before sitting down on the couches. ‘We haven’t done a UStream in ages.’ Jai stated sitting on the couch with his laptop. ‘Do we feel like on today?’ he asked looking around. ‘Sure!’ I replied. ‘I’m always up for a bit of fun.’ I added, I looked around, Beau was nodding. Jai put the laptop on the coffee table and Beau and I sat opposite him. Jai turned on the camera and we started, we got a lot of requests for shout outs, we got through as many as we could along with answering questions that were coming through.
