BEAU’S POV
It was a shock to see her like that. I could see that she was disappointed in herself, the fact that she had little or no independence was killing her. Jai went and helped her to get changed. I could see it in her face, she didn’t smile like she used to, and she wasn’t herself anymore.
She insisted on getting into the car herself, she did it, but we could all see it was really hard for her. Jai folded up the chair and put in into the back of the car and we drove to the city. ‘Where do we want to go?’ I asked when we stopped at a set of lights. ‘I don’t think we should go to Melbourne Central, to many people will stop us.’
‘Yeah,’ Luke replied.
‘Why don’t we head down to South Warf? DFO?’ Jai asked as we took off again.
‘Yeah sounds good,’ Jess added from the back seat.
We arrived and walked inside, ‘I want a new pair of Vans,’ Luke said looking around the complex.
‘Me too,’ Jess added. So we walked to Road House because they had a pretty good collection of Vans. We went crazy grabbing pairs and pairs to try on. Luke and I fought over a pair, I won. After trying on like 10 pairs of shoes I had decided on two pairs, Luke decided on two and Jess and Jai had both found a pair each. We paid for them and walked out.
JESS’S POV
After we walked out of Road House the boys got stopped for photos, I could tell the boys felt really bad about it, but it was okay. I moved myself away from them and just waited up against a wall, a few girls recognised me and came over and talked to me. They were really nice; they just wanted to say get well soon and to say that they thought I was really brave. I don’t think they realised that they had just made my day, I felt a little more confident and they had made me feel happy. I made sure to thank them and I took their twitter names, I was going to ask the boys to follow them when we got home, I knew they would appreciate it, I wanted them to know that I appreciated them coming out of their way to say hi to me.
After the boys had gotten through all of the photos we headed to the food court. Jai and Beau bought food while Luke and I found us a table. ‘So how are you really doing?’ Luke asked as he moved chair over so I could sit at the table. ‘What do you mean? I’m doing fine.’ I replied as Luke sat opposite me.
‘Well you’ve sorta being going it alone, you haven’t talked to your friends about it much. And I think of you as like my best friend, so if you ever want to talk just let me know okay?’ He was being serious, and I needed it.
‘Thanks Luke,’ I said smiling. ‘Honestly, I’m struggling. It’s really hard and I can’t stand the fact that everyone has to do everything for me. The most annoying thing…. I can’t even get dressed in the morning,’ I sighed.
‘I know you don’t want help, but if you ever need it, call me. Whenever, wherever and the same goes with Jai, we’re always happy to help.’ Luke said waving at Jai and Beau who were carrying trays full of food.
‘I know,’ I said looking around. ‘How many people are you feeding?’ I joked looking at the amount of food piled up on the trays. They had gone to KFC and bought more than enough food for the four of us.
I was quite surprised, we managed to finish all of the food the boys had bought, it was quite an achievement considering the amount of food they had bought.
I had a really good time with the boys, when we had had enough we drove home; Jai helped me get changed into my pyjamas before they headed home. I had a great day; those girls had made such a difference. I texted Jai the girls twitter names; I thought it was an awesome idea to follow them, he thanked them for me. I spent some time on my laptop before eating dinner and going to bed.
-The next day-
JESS’S POV
The next day I just hung around the house, about half an hour before I had to leave for Physical Therapy there was a knock at the door. It wasn’t unexpected, Jai was coming with me. I opened the door, in front of me stood Luke. ‘Oh hi Luke,’ I said, a little surprised.
‘Hey Jess, Jai had tennis, he tried to get out of it but he couldn’t. He didn’t want you to go alone, so he suggested I come along?’ Luke said walking into the house. I stood up and gave him a hug.
‘Thanks so much for coming Luke, I needed this.’ Luke smiled and helped me sit back down.
‘So, are you planning on going in your pyjamas?’ He asked jokingly. I looked around awkwardly, ‘Omg Jess, I didn’t mean it.’
‘No it’s okay, I can take a joke. Do you mind giving me a hand?’ Luke nodded and followed me into my room. I grabbed out some clothes and sat on the bed. ‘I don’t really need help getting changed; I just can’t get it off.’ I said as Luke sat next to me. ‘I got it,’ he said smiling, undoing the brace. I winced as he pulled it away, I quickly got changed and he strapped it back on. ‘Thanks so much,’ I said smiling getting back into my chair, ‘Dad should be home any second to take us.’ Luke nodded and we sat in the living room.
Physical Therapy went well; my therapist started getting me to walk with a frame. He said I will be able to get out of my chair really soon, Luke and I were really excited. ‘That’s awesome,’ Jai said in the car on the way home, ‘you’re doing so well.’ I couldn’t help but smile, rehab was going well. The doctor had said not to go to school for at least a few more weeks, a was a little disappointed but it was alright, as long as the boys still made the effort to visit I was going to be fine.
