Chapter 40

We made it to 40! Anyway continue..

"That's too soon. I need to talk with everyone about it." I announce.

What if everybody is not on board with this as much as I am? I think we need time to adapt to the idea of her having surgery.

"I'm sorry, but this is the only option, we either do it tonight or I can't do it at all, I'm booked for the next two weeks, I had to squeeze you guys in." He announces.

"We'll be right back." Ivan interrupts. He grabs me by my hand and drags me into the other room.

"Listen Ivory, I know this is probably what you don't want to hear right now; but we have no choice to do it. This is the best option she has right now and frankly, I believe your mother would take up on this opportunity and she's the one getting the surgery, not you."

I knew where he was getting at, but it's just so soon. I'd want to talk to everyone about it; but time is just so valuable and we don't have enough of it right now.

"I get it, but could I talk to my mother about this first?"

He nods his head reluctantly. I bolt for my mothers room and open the door. She way lying there peacefully. I walked over and knelt by her bed. I shook her limp body.

Her eyes fluttered open and she focused on me. "Hey Ivory? What's up." She asks.

"Mother I have something to tell you and I want your honest option and I need it quick."

She nods her head confused. So I continue. "The clot in your leg is lessening, but the cancer is getting worse. You need to have surgery and the only day you can do it is today; it's too quick right?" I say all in one breath.

"No, I'm actually grateful it's this soon. The longer I wait, the less chance I have at surviving."

I heard the door open up behind me. "She's right you know." I turn towards he voice and the doctor stood behind me.

I nod my head and let it hang down. I'm being ignorant aren't I? I should have known my mother would have wanted to go, I was just thinking about myself and how I feel, not even considering the feelings of someone who is actually going to have the surgery.

"I need to know now. I have to leave in 10 minutes; are you going to take up my offer on the surgery or not?" He added. "With me, you have a higher chance of surviving the surgery."

"Wait? She can die from this surgery?"

He nods his head and gave me that look that says 'are you seriously that dumb?' "I thought it was pretty obvious, but I'm saying; with me she'll have a higher chance of surviving."

I nod my head. "I get that, but I thought if the surgery didn't work, she would just have to wait till she dies and if the surgery worked than hallelujah."

He laughs. "Well alright then. Are you coming or not?" He asked my mother.

She nods her head a little too quickly for my liking. I grab her hands in mine. "Are you sure about this?"

She nods her head. "Ivory, this is my only chance to be able to be with you, we can't let this go."

"You're right, I'm sorry." I announce.

She engulfs me in a hug. "No worries darling." She pulls apart. "But I've got to go now."

She starts getting up and I assist her. "You know I can walk on my own right."
