Chapter 15

My father. He was right here; in front of me. I'm confused how Adam couldn't put the two and two together to find out we're related.

My father had a mix of confusion and anger painted all over his face. "Ivory, what are you doing here?"

I rested my arms over my chest. "I could ask you the same." I say stubbornly.

"Actually Sir, I was just explaining Ivory is working here. How do you know her?" Adam butts in.

My father turns to glare at him. "This is my daughter." He said through gritted teeth.

"This is her?" Adam says panicky. They obviously have been talking about me. This is some sort of code language.

My father slowly nods his head. "What have I told you?"

"I'm sorry sir, I didn't know this was your daughter." He backs away a bit.

My father turns his attention on me. "When did you start working here?" He frowns.

I shrugged. "Not too long ago, maybe 2 weeks?" I contemplated.

"Does your mother know?" He says quietly.

"Yeah of course." I say boredly.

"And she did absolutely nothing?" He raises his voice.

"Father keep it down, you're making a scene." I said sternly.

He grabs my arm and forcefully pulls me out of the restaurant, Adam following closely behind. We make it all the way around the building,

"Adam, I told you, Ivory was not suppose to be involved in this company." He growls.

"I'm sorry sir I-I didn't know." Adam stutters.

He looked so defenceless and scared. I felt terrible and I wanted to tell my dad to lay off him, but I'm not sure what is really happening. Besides, telling him to lay off; is asking for someone to lay me on my death bed.

"Hold on." I spoke up. "Why can't I be involved in the family business. I am part of the family aren't I?" I stubbornly say.

He turns toward me, obviously surprised by my Out burst. "Well, of course you are Ivory." He put a hand on my shoulder.

I brushed it off and looked him dead in the eye, kind of like I'm trying to challenge him.

I laugh dryly. "Oh wait, you're the one who's not apart of the family." I smile wickedly.

He gulps and rubs the back of his neck nervously. He puts a hand on the wall to support him. "What do you mean Ivory?"

"Father drop the act. I found out this was your company a couple days again. I also found out; my mother and I's real name is Newkot. You're not my father; we had just taken your name."

I continued. "I had read an article last night it went a little something like this; Ivory Newkot adopted 1998 by Richard Carder, aren't I right dad? Or should I say acquaintance or step father? I'm not sure really."

I kept babbling and it was pretty cruel. But this man has been hiding secrets from me all my life. I said I was going to give him a chance, but I can't give in right away; I need to break the outer shell and find out things first. I have to give him a hard time, without it; it won't be hard love and I've heard that's the strongest kind.

"Ivory, I don't know what to say, I'm sorry?" It sounded more likes question, than genuine.

I held my hand up. "Save it. I had decided to give you another chance; but I want to know everything and I want to be involved in the business."
