Chapter 47

I actually managed to fall asleep last night after that terrifying occurrence. That doesn't mean I didn't stay up many hours, being to petrified to turn my back to the door.

The room became eerily silent and nothing happened for the rest of the night. I managed to fall asleep a little while after.

And this is where I am. I'm sitting on the floor. Listening to the soft sounds of my mother snoring. What freaked me out, is that the door is completely opened, but the sunlight that shined through the windows in the hallway calmed me down.

I ripped the blanket of myself and got up. I decided to leave my mother sleeping, since she really needed it; we stayed up pretty late last night. I wonder if she remembers what had happened.

I look on the bedside table and there sat a half of bottle of pills. I yank the body up and rush out of the room. What was she even doing with this? And how did she even manage to get up without me hearing, what is even happening with her?

I saw Hazel cooking some breakfast. I hid the pills behind my back and tried to successfully put the pills away without her knowing.

She turned around seconds before I hid it in the cabinet. She smiled brightly at me. She ran over and wrapped her arms around me tightly, the air leaving my body.

"Hey Hazel." I say, panting a little bit.

She looks up at me and smiles; showing her extremely white teeth. "Hi Ivory."

She pokes my nose and let's go of me; to focus on the food she was preparing. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you too, where have you been?"

"My grandfather is really sick right now and he's like a father to me, I asked for the week off and your father showed sympathy, I've never seen him like this."

Could r be because he knows how it feels to have someone you love sick? Or is he a changed man; I would love that.

"Huh. If he didn't let you go, I'd give him a piece of my mind. Is he okay?"

She sighs. "He's stable. They don't think he's going to survive and it really hurts. To be completely honest Ivory; I didn't want to come in today."

I nodded sadly. "If you ever need a day off to be with him, just send me a text; I'll cook the meals for the day."

Her face brightened a little bit. "You're amazing you know that?"

I smile and flip my hair to the side dramatically. "I try sometimes."

Hazel and I caught up on a few things while we prepared breakfast together. Who would of thought this would be happening; I'm cooking in my fathers amazing kitchen, with his amazing maid. If you told me this a couple months ago; I'd thought you'd have lost it.

We set all the plates and utensils on the table. Separating the food into bowls to serve, get what you want and however much you want.

I began eating and Hazel sat beside me. We just chatted for a while, not bothering to wake anyone up; we all aren't morning people.

My father was the first to walk in. He wore his reading glasses and looked very concentrated on reading the paper he held in his hands. He pushed the glasses up a little bit when they slid down his nose.

He almost bumped into the table, but noticed his surroundings right before it had happened.

He made an 'oof' sound and looked up at us. "Hey Ivory, hey Hazel. This food looks amazing." He looked between us. He sat down at the end of the table and started piling food on plates.
