Chapter 45
He took a few steps over towards us and my mother hid behind my back for protection.
"What is she talking about?" Pain evident in his eyes. I knew this must be really hard for him.
"The surgery had caused her to experience slight amnesia." I blurt out.
He rested his head on the wall. He kept quiet for a while, taking in the information. "I can't believe this." He whispered, still facing the wall.
He pushed himself off of it and started walking towards her, he had his hand out, to be cautious while walking.
My mother gripped onto me even harder. Every time he went to the right, she'd move my body and go to the left, my body still blocking her petite one.
"Ivory, please tell him to stop." She whimpered with fear.
It pains my heart, to see her so terrified by him and the fact that he's hurting just as much, yet she doesn't realize how this is affecting him.
She bumped into a wall and my father had caught up to us. Her eyes wide with fear as he took steps closer, her whimpering getting louder as well.
"It's okay, it's just me." He says peacefully. He places a hand lightly on her shoulder and she yelps in fear, painfully loud; dangerously close to my ear.
She pushes me into my father as she runs off. He grips onto me before I fall. He helps me steady myself. I sigh and look into his eyes. His face is pained and he's hurting very badly, I would hate to be experiencing that right now.
He rested his hands on his face and wiped down. I saw tears forming in his eyes and my heart just broke a little more.
"I can't believe this." His lip quivered and his voice raspy. Exhausted played out on his face, the bags had formed under his eyes, his dry lips and his eyes threatening to close.
"Just give it time, she'll remember you."
He nodded sadly. "It hurts a lot Ivory. Until then?"
"I know it does. Until then, don't force her to remember anything, it could affect the process negatively and she'll remember some things that are less important than others, in replace of them. She has remembered so much, so I don't think it will take very long."
He nodded his head and rubbed his eyes. "I hope so."
I patted his back reassuringly. "So did you get everything fixed and settled?"
"Yeah. Supposedly the guy has been staying there for weeks. Can't believe we haven't known it till now."
"Well how did he get in?"
"The night guard hasn't been locking the back door, rookie move. He's fired anyway and it's an easy fix."
I smiled. "That's good. I think you should get some sleep, you worked very hard today."
He nodded and smiled, it wasn't a happy one; it was clearly a cover up to hide the pain and agony he's feeling right now. "That's probably a good idea." He says and stalks off across the room, leaving me behind; not before kissing my forehead. I see his head peek out from the wall. "Oh Ivory?"
"Yes?"
"Your foods burning." He says and walks off.
I react quickly. I shut the stove off and throw it into the sink, drowning it with water. Leaving the burnt noodles to float around in the dirty water
I sigh and rest my head against the wall. Exhausted is dawning over me heavily the last few weeks. I have done things in the last week or so, that I never thought I'd do.
