This is a little extra chapter that will explain how the Student Council is run at Blue Isle High.
At the beginning of the school year, the students who want to be a part of the student council go to a meeting that is set on the first day of school located in the Student Council Room on the second floor. (Usually, there are a very small amount of people who choose to be in the student council due to how rigorous and time consuming it is). Once there, the current members will introduce themselves and talk about how the "groups" will be set up.
These "groups" aren't necessarily groups, but a partnership. The new members will get paired with a current member of the position they are aiming for in order to learn the ropes of the organization. There will be one more member if a current member is also going for a higher position. For example, Amanda (the girl Jack can't stand) is the current Vice President, and since Jack wants to have that position, he is paired with her. This means they will work together while Amanda guides Jack through the duties of VP. But also, Amanda is shooting for the President position for the next year, so she will be under the 3rd year President's supervision. For this group, there are 3 members. There are usually only 2, but occasionally there will be 3 members and very rarely there will be 4 members if two people want a certain spot.
Also, there can be multiple people in a position. Because the student council is so difficult to manage, there will always be a small amount of people, so the organization will gladly take two people per position (it usually doesn't happen though).
The Student Council has meetings twice a week on Monday and Thursday after school. The first part of the meeting will be for people to come to the Council with a proposition or issue they want to discuss. Within that time, they will discuss their options and come up with the best solution. The second part of the meeting is to talk about issues within the school and how they can fix them. They also go over the important paperwork that is presented to them. If the paperwork isn't something that needs to be discussed among the full Council, it is taken care of within the groups and then given to the President to approve.
Blue Isle High is a special school because it is mostly student run. This is because the school is so isolated, so it gives the students a chance to make decisions for themselves. The students make most of the decisions through suggestions that the Student Council take into account. And this is why the Student Council's job is so huge: because they have to make everything as fair as they can for all the students.
Also, if one of the positions is not filled, then all the current members will split that position's work among themselves.
Finally, a 1st year student cannot be an official member of the Student Council. They have to undergo a year of working alongside another member in order to get used to the new atmosphere and workload. Once a member is in their 2nd year, it will finally be their official position.
Positions:
President: This position is very important and is meant for a person that has exceptional leadership skills. They will be in charge of organizing the meetings and overlooking all the paperwork that comes in for the Council. They must also have great communication skills to be able to talk to the staff members and students throughout the school. They have to be knowledgeable about the other positions of the Council and the school rules in order to answer questions that are brought to them. (Also, only a third year can be the President. The student needs to be in the council for two years before they become President in order to gain authority).
Vice President: This position is very similar to President's. The person in the position is expected to have just as much leadership and communication skills as the President. They will also look over a lot of the paperwork that the President has to go through. And just like the President's position, the Vice President must be knowledgeable in the Council positions and the school rules because they will be approached with just as many questions as the President.
Treasurer: This person in the position will keep track of the Student Council budget. They also manage the budgets of the official clubs on campus. If a club wants to higher budget for a certain event, then they would hold a meeting with the student council and discuss the budget amount with the Treasurer.
Secretary: This person will take notes and attendance during each meeting and record it for the whole year. They are also in charge of relaying important dates and events to the other members of the Council. This position is usually for someone who is good at organizing and genuinely likes to organize since that plays a big role in this position.
Disciplinary: A strict person needs to take this position because they will be in charge of making sure the students are wearing the appropriate uniforms. They don't have to worry about the student's hair or makeup because that is what allows them to be individual. They basically have to make sure the students are wearing the uniforms the correct and proper way.
Activities Director: This position takes care of all the activities happening on campus. If a club or group of people want to create an event, they have to present it to the Activities Director and get it approved. Usually, a creative person with an open mind will be running this job in order to help modify and assist the events in order to make them happen and keep the students happy.
