Sam started to feel a little nervous as she was approaching court #1. However, once she picked up the basketball on the floor, all of her nerves disappeared. She looked down and smiled at the basketball, then lowered her head and placed her forehead on the ball, which was something she would do to help her focus. When the announcer started to set them off, she took the ball away from her forehead and got ready to start shooting.
"And... Begin!"
The ball left Sam's hands as soon as the announcer finished speaking. She started off by shooting from around 1 foot behind the free throw line to get warmed up. Once the ball would leave her hands, she would immediately run up under the basket to grab the ball and run back to her spot.
She slowly started backing up with every shot she made in order to properly adjust her form to start shooting 3-pointers. While she was doing this, Ricky and Oliver were watching from the sidelines.
"Wow," sighed Oliver.
Ricky glanced over at him to see that Oliver's eyes were glued on Sam. He had completely forgotten to cheer for his other teammates. Ricky couldn't help but let a smirk escape since that was exactly how Sam was with Oliver during his turn.
"I know right?" he agreed, "Sam has one of the best forms on the team."
"You can tell how many years of training and effort she put into perfecting it," said Oliver.
Ricky looked back out at Sam to see that she was close to crossing the 3-pointer line with 2:55 left on the clock.
Hmmm... How can I prevent her from getting more points? thought Ricky.
A sudden idea popped into his head and then he swung around to Oliver.
"Oliver! You should cheer for her! Just be like, 'Yeah you got this Sam!' Or something like that."
"I should, huh! She's doing so well she deserves a loud cheer."
Oliver took a deep breath and yelled, "YOU GOT THIS SAM!"
Sam instantly twitched when she heard his loud outburst. She ended up releasing the ball at a bad angle, which caused the ball to bounce off the rim of the basket. The ball flew in the opposite direction, so Sam had to sprint after it while swerving and avoiding the other participants. The audience was howling with laughter while screaming things like, "Get the ball, Sam!"
When she finally tracked down her ball, she glared over at Ricky and Oliver, only to find Ricky clutching onto Oliver's shoulder hunched over in laughter.
Okay. Fuck this, she thought with fuming anger.
Sam stared at her basket from all the way across the gym. She took the ball in one hand and mentally lined up her shot. Then, she took two hops forward and chucked the ball hard and high. She had no idea if the ball was going to make it into the basket, but it felt nice to let out her annoyance by hurling the ball.
As soon as the ball left her hand, she started jogging back towards her court. Within a couple seconds, the ball swooshed through the net. Sam's eyes widened in disbelief. She jumped up and down as she shouted, "Holy shit! It actually went in!"
There was a gigantic detonation of shocked cheers that screeched throughout the gym. Most of the red team members in the bleachers stood up and "fangirled" with each other.
When Sam finally got back over to her court, the red team started chanting, "Sam! Sam! Sam!" She looked around and laughed while bowing to them, causing them to cheer even more.
Sam picked up her ball and glanced over at Ricky to see him violently shaking Oliver's shoulders screaming, "What happened?! What happened?! I fucking missed it!"
