Individual Track Event (Jumping): Each participant would perform a vertical jump. 5 steps were allowed before the jump to help the participant get momentum. Instead of allowing the person 3 tries per event, they were only allowed 2. Participants had their scores written down on a card to turn in for the final scores later.
The second day of the Sports Contest was finally underway. The PCCS and Honey met after the team meeting to get ready for their events. Ricky and Opal were not in any track events so they were planning to watch Sam, Oliver, Jack, and Honey in the stands.
Sam could tell that Ricky was restless about having to spend time alone with Opal. As the four participating in the track events left to go get ready, Sam looked back at Ricky. Their gazes met and Sam smirked and gave him a thumbs up. Ricky's face instantly turned red.
"SAM!" he quietly whined in an angry, embarrassed tone.
Sam laughed and then ran to catch up to the others. Opal had already caught on long ago to what was going on with Ricky's feelings. She covered her mouth to hide the happy smile that was creeping up on her face.
Don't laugh girl. DON'T LAUGH, she commanded to herself
Opal shook her head while taking a deep breath. While she exhaled, Ricky turned around to face her with blushed cheeks. She giggled and tapped his arm.
"C'mon, lets go watch everyone together," she said.
A big smile beamed on Ricky's face.
"Yeah, let's go."
Opal smiled back as they continued to walk over to the bleachers for the track events.
Sam, Oliver, and Jack were all entered in the Jumping event. Honey was waiting for them on the sidelines for the Running events. Sam nudged Oliver and said, "She's watching us. You better jump like your life depends on it." Oliver turned to Sam with a confident look on his face.
"I always jump like my life depends on it."
Sam was speechless for a moment; she had never seen him make such a serious expression.
Jack snickered and hung put his arm around Oliver's neck.
"Just don't trip over your feet and mess up both your tries in front of her."
Oliver wiggled out of his grip and whined, "I won't!" and then stomped away towards the track.
Jack glanced over at Sam to see her looking after him with a smile on her face, but it seemed a little off.
"Sam, let's go over too. It will start soon."
Smile returning to normal, she looked up at him and replied, "Yeah let's go!"
Once again the order of participants was completely random. The red and blue teams each had 4 stations for their jumps. Sam was the first to go between Jack and Oliver.
Alright, lets see how all this training has paid off, she though as went over to the station.
Sam backed up to get a good distance between her and the jumping device. Blasting forward, she took her 5 steps and stomped down with both feet, using everything in her legs to propel herself upwards, then smacking the device at the peak of her jump. Once she landed down, she waited for the observers to calculate her jump. They gave it to her and it ended up being a lot higher than it was at the beginning of the year during the PE tests.
Excited, she looked over at Jack and Oliver with a huge smile on her face. They noticed hand gave her outgoing thumbs up.
- She took her second attempt but it was just under the first one so it didn't count. She went to meet back up with the boys and they asked her what that smile was about. She told them how her jump had improved and they congratulated her.
(HI guys, I don't know what happened but half of my chapter is gone and went back to my draft form so I will work on fixing this. Sorry for the weird gap in between chapters.)
