"Arthur!" someone called through the castle. Their shout echoed off the walls, ceilings and floors until they reached the newly-crowned king in his private chambers.
You hid behind a red velvet curtain in the chambers that you had found. You didn't know where you were or what was happening, but you knew that you couldn't be found.
You heard someone step into the chambers calmly before you heard the pounding of someone's feet as they also entered. "Arthur, someone has managed to get into the castle. They could be dangerous. Would you like me to guard you?"
The first someone to enter dismissed this out-of-breath second someone, who sounded distinctly male. The first someone seemed to be called Arthur and also sounded male. "Leon, you have been loyal to Camelot and its ruler for two generations of Pendragons. Thank you for your offer, but I am also a knight. I can protect myself. Help the guards do a sweep of the castle."
The second someone - Leon - said: "Sire," before you heard someone turn and leave the chambers. You assumed this to be Leon. Then, your breath caught.
"Oh, gods," you muttered, whispering quieter than you had ever before whispered. "I'm in the King's Chambers." Then the red curtain was pulled away from in front of you.
He was there. Around six foot high at your best guess - seeing as you were curled up in a corner - with piercing blue eyes and sandy blonde hair that was held beneath a shining pewter crown. He didn't seem to see you at first, not looking low enough.
Then his hands gently but firmly grabbed your arms and he practically lifted you from the corner. Feeling that this was the appropriate time for explanations, you spoke, filling your tone with as much humility as you could. "Your Highness, I didn't realise..."
He looked at you. Not in anger. He seemed more... intrigued. "How did you get in here?"
"Wel... P... Pardon, my lord?" You were confused. He was - it seemed - now King of the Castle. Why would he treat you like another of his knights? "Forgive me, but you have just found me in your chambers, sire. May I ask; why you are treating me like any other courtier?"
"If I am not mistaken," he replied, his voice not loud enough to attract attention but certainly imposing, "you are wanted by my Knights, which is no small feat. How did you manage to get into my chambers?"
"I... well..." You paused a moment for thought. If you told him exactly how you had managed to get in, he could be as ruthless as his father and kill you. After all, it was technically treasonous. However, lying to the King was definitely treasonous. "Sire, I know that I have no right to ask this, but I would like to request that you hear my reason fully before making a judgement."
"Okay then..." he replied slowly, giving you the feeling that he already knew what you were going to say.
"I managed to distract the guards to castle itself... Roll some barrels, but avoid serious injuries... because I was told that someone working in the castle could help me." You paused to flick some of your (h/c) hair away from your eyes. ~ (h/c) means hair colour, surprise surprise ~ "I... I have magic. And I was told that I would only truly be able to control my powers once a man in Camelot called Emrys had taught me how to use it.
"Forgive me, sire, but I searched the town for news of a man called Emrys. He was nowhere. Coming into the castle was my last hope, my lord. I understand, sire, Camelot's laws concerning magic and I swear to you now sire, I will not use my powers within your castle." You bowed low as you finished speaking, hoping that you hadn't signed the rest of your life away.
"You don't need to bow." You immediately stopped, looking up towards his eyes. His eyes looked all over you, taking in little details, like the way you stand, your pleading (e/c) eyes, your (length) (h/c) hair. "I very much doubt that you intend to kill my knights." You went to thank him. He dismissed it as he continued speaking. "But, if any of my knights are seriously injured while you are nearby, you will face trial. And mark my words, if you are guilty, you will be found so and killed. Do you understand?"
"Yes, sire," you replied, "thank you sire. I will honour your kind heart, sire." You went to bow but you both heard footsteps.
"What is your name?" he asked quietly.
"I'm (y/n). (Y/n) (l/n) of the druids."
"Stand behind me, (y/n)," he told you, as the footsteps drew nearer. You did as he asked. Both you and the King watched the door, awaiting whatever came.
A man around the King's height with obsidian hair and blue-green eyes entered through the door. "Arthur," he started, not noticing you, "the guards say that it was a woman who managed to enter the..." He trailed off when he saw you.
"Merlin, don't," the King told him, when he looked like he was going to call for the guards.
"But it's her. She's who they're after," he replied.
"I know, but she means no harm to my kingdom. If she wanted to kill me, she had several opportunities in the time that we've been talking. Not to mention the fact that she is currently stood behind me." The man - Merlin - took a deep breath.
You took in his appearance. He looked like neither a knight nor a courtier. This left you with only one reason why he could be that concerned. Concerned enough to run into the King's Chambers. He was the King's manservant.
"Merlin, I want you to help her. She has come to Camelot to find someone. She has managed to search everywhere but the castle. Help her find who she needs to find. She can explain more. I shall go and inform the guards." On that note, he left the chambers to talk to his knights and guards, leaving just you and Merlin in the King's Chambers.
"Who are you looking for?" he asked you, not entirely sure that he could trust you.
"A man called Emrys. I was told that he is the only hope for me to learn to control my powers." His eyes widened in shock. His mouth slackened ever so slightly. "Do you know who he is?"
"Who wants to know?"
"My name is (y/n). I'm a druid. I was kicked unceremoniously out of the druidlands, told not to return until I had found Emrys and learnt to control my powers. Do you know Emrys?" you asked, growing excited with anticipation.
"Well, that's what the druids call me. So I would guess that yes, I know who Emrys is." He held his hand out to you, after seemingly thinking for a moment. "Come on, (y/n), I have someone that you ought to meet."

Time-skip
Arthur sat opposite you at a long table. You'd been in Camelot for two days and he had long since called his men off trying to find you, knowing well enough that you had no desire to kill him. You were both eating. He was insistent on treating you like a Lady. Every time you brought it up, he would say: "Nonsense, (y/n), you are here as my guest, which means that you must be treated the same as any other member of my court. To me, you are a Lady."
