Clove's P.O.V

The next morning I wake up and find Cato nowhere in sight, he must have gotten up early and left my room. We eat breakfast as usual and go straight into hair and makeup for Caesar's interviews tonight. It's a long, tedious process but we get done in time for the show. All of the tributes stand in a line backstage, waiting to be escorted on. I'm third in line, Glimmer is first and Marvel follows after. Cato stands behind me, he's a whole head lengths taller than me so he has no trouble seeing anything, I feel bad for the kids behind him.

Soon, Glimmer is escorted onstage and we watch her interview on a TV backstage, she's being so fake, it's like she doesn't have a personality of her own. Then it was Marvel's turn, he acted casual but cheeky, nothing new. Before I knew it, I am being escorted onstage and find myself in my seat beside Caesar, I don't even remember how I got here, it must be the nerves.

As we engage in some small talk I realize that Caesar's laugh is the most annoying thing I'd ever heard.

"So, any special boy back home?" Caesar asks humbly.

"No." I said with some hesitation.

"Oh, come on! Such a beautiful young girl and there's no one special?"

"No, I'm sorry, Caesar." I shake my head and put on a fake smile.

"Oh well, give it up for Clove Kentwell everybody!" Caesar declares as we stand he raises our hands into the air. I can't even see the crowd through the bright lights but their screams are deafening

I walk off stage, squeezing Cato's hand as I walk past him. I can feel my face heat up with embarrassment and Cato is escorted onstage. The crowd goes insane, probably awing over Cato's handsomeness. Our mentors Serri and Theor greet me with a big hug to calm my nerves and we turn our attention back on the TV.

"What about you, Cato, have a special lady back home?" Caesar's asks and leans towards Cato.

"Uh," Cato nervously laughs. "No, not really."

"No one? Come on, Cato!" He over-dramatically exclaims.

"Well, there is one." Cato answers, and for some reason I feel my heart fall into my chest. He has a girl in Two? How did I not know?

"Ahh? Spill!" The crowd gets jittery with excitement.

"Her name is Clove." He confesses. The audience has mixed signals, some sighing, some cheering. My heart basically leaps out of my chest. All of the other tributes backstage look at me, their gaze burning like a torch, I just keep my eyes on the screen.

"Awe, well would you look at that! Starcrossed lovers, Cato and Clove! Let's give it up for Cato!" Caesar announces.

Cato finds his way backstage and meets us.

"Good job, Cato! Now the audience has our District 2 lovers to root for! This will get us sponsors no problem!" Serri yells with excitement.

"Clove did a great job too, Serri." Cato says. I look at him and blush.

"The Games begin tomorrow, so you two better get to bed." Thoer says and we start walking.

"Come on, let's go get some sleep." Cato says and puts his arm around me.
