I pulled into the driveway of Louis and Niall's house in my car that I rarely used. It was partly because I liked to walk but also partly because I had other things to pay for besides gas. But in the cool February air it seemed like an appropriate time to drive. I slammed the car door behind me and the cold air immediately stung my cheeks and my nose. I quickly hopped up the steps and was greeted at the front door by Liam who ushered me inside.
"Hey happy birthday man!" he cheered, pulling me into a bear hug.
"Thanks," I smiled and removed my shoes and jacket.
"Come," Liam pulled me by the wrist towards the living room. "Welcome to the party!" he exclaimed proudly.
"Happy birthday Harry!" Niall and Louis shouted simultaneously from the couch.
I looked around the room in awe. There were banners and streamers hung. There were some balloons that had floated up to the ceiling. It wasn't much but it was the most trouble anyone has gone through for me in a long time.
"Did you do this all for me?" I gaped.
"It's nothing really, I like decorating for parties and stuff," Liam beamed.
"Just wait 'till you taste the food," Niall gushed, "Liam's the best cook in the world."
Liam blushed, "hardly," he murmured modestly.
"Oh yeah? You should see the cake he made you," Niall retorted.
"You made me a cake?" I gasped.
"I promised cake," Louis said more to himself than anyone else.
"Yeah, come here I'll show you."
I trailed behind Liam into the kitchen where a magnificent 3 tier cake stood on the counter.
"I hope you like chocolate."
"Liam you really didn't need t-"
Liam stopped me, "I wanted to. It's your birthday, you deserve it."
I nodded in agreement. I guess I did. I mean I was turning 20 after all. While I was dating Zayn I always felt worthless and had a hard time thinking I deserved anything. This was the first time since we broke up I felt worthy of anything.
Niall and Louis had now joined us in the kitchen and we sat around the table to enjoy the meal Liam prepared for the occasion.
Once we had finished eating, Louis and Liam got up from the table.
"Off to do the dishes," Louis announced, "it's what I'm best at. You know I do it professionally," he laughed to himself and left Niall and I at the table.
This time Niall was quick to break the silence.
"Are you having a good birthday so far?"
"Yeah," I grinned, "it's really, really great."
"It'll get even better once you have some of that cake," Niall looked over and Liam and Louis who were focused on the dishes, "hang on."
Niall swiftly got up from his seat and tiptoed over to the cake standing tall on the counter. He took one final glance at Liam and Louis before sticking his finger in the bottom of the cake, swiping away some white icing.
"Here," he said, holding his finger out at me.
"What do you want me to do with this?" I asked. I knew exactly what he wanted me to do but I wasn't going to go sucking on his finger that easily.
"Eat it. Liam makes the best icing," Niall waved his finger at me.
I cautiously opened my mouth and sucked the sugary icing off Niall's finger. I leaned back and looked Niall straight in the eye before moaning.
"So good," I teased.
Niall erupted into laughter that was interrupted by Liam carrying over the cake and Louis carrying a small wrapped box. Liam set the cake down and Louis handed me the box.
"You got me a gift?" I said, amazed.
"It's your birthday why wouldn't we?" Louis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You deserve it," Liam repeated for what seemed to be the 100th time that night, "from all of us."
I smiled, overjoyed to finally be with people that made me feel like I was worth something.

After eating cake we all threw on our coats and went to sit around the fire pit in the yard. Niall brought his guitar along and Liam brought along some blankets. Louis and Liam huddled together under a blanket, leaving Niall and I to sit together once again. We spent hours telling stories and laughing, not the least bit bothered by the cold. Niall strummed a few chords on his guitar before beginning to sing a familiar song. The song he sang to Ashton, or so I thought.
"You can say we'll be together someday. But nothing lasts forever, nothing stays the same. So why can't I stop feeling this way?"
I gawked at Niall's beauty under the moonlight. The dim light shining on his pale skin.
"Did you write that?" Liam asked once he was finished playing.
"No actually Ashton did. He taught it to me so I could perform it the other night," Niall explained.
Ashton taught him the song. Niall had to be ready to perform it that night. As all the pieces came together in my mind I kicked myself for being so jealous. So jealous I drank myself into the worst hangover ever.
"How's the song coming along?" Niall asked, subtly forcing his guitar into my hands.
I breathed out a laugh, "would you like to hear it?"
"Well," Niall smirked, "if you really want to play it for me I wouldn't mind."
I took a shaky breath. I was about to play the song I wrote about Niall to his face. He swayed along to the rhythm of the guitar and slowly raised his eyes to mine.
"I want you here with me, like how I pictured it. So I don't have to keep imagining. Come on jump out at me. Come on bring everything. Is it too much to ask for something great?"
As the song progressed Niall kept his eyes focused on mine and inched his way closer to me. As the song came to an end I sang the first thing I ever wrote about Niall.
"You're all I want, so much it's hurting."
I placed the guitar down beside me, not once breaking our eye's connection. Before I could even realize what was happening Niall placed his fingers under my chin, leaned in, and pressed a soft kiss against my lips. He pulled back and rested his forehead against mine, looking deep into my eyes as a way of asking permission. I answered his gaze by leaning in and connecting our lips once again. Our lips worked together as if we had been doing this our entire lives. The world around me stopped, only for a minute. The moment was interrupted all too soon by cheering from Louis, who I had forgotten was present.
Liam slapped his hand over Louis' mouth. "Excuse us for a moment," he wrapped his arm around Louis' waist and dragged him inside.
"I wrote the song about you," I admitted.
"I know," Niall breathed gently against my mouth as he pressed his forehead against mine once again, "I wanted Ashton to teach me that song so I could sing it to you at the club."
"Wait what?" my eyes widened.
"Since I first saw you I couldn't stop thinking about you," Niall's face flushed.
"Oh my god," I whispered to myself. It was a good oh my god. The guy I was immediately intrigued by had felt the same way about me the whole time.
"I know that probably came off a bit strong," Niall rambled, "but-"
I stopped him mid-sentence by crashing my lips into his. I lifted his chin up and gazed into his bright eyes.
"I couldn't stop thinking about you either."
