My eyes adjusted to the light and I saw Louis, Liam, and another woman hovering over me.
"He's back!" Louis exclaimed.
I took a moment to take in my surroundings. I was in a bed surrounded by monitors that didn't seem to be attached to something.
"What happened?" I mumbled as I sat up.
"You just passed out a little," the woman who appeared to be a nurse stated, "here drink this," she handed by a glass of water before leaving the room.
I pondered why I was taken to the hospital, after all I only passed out. Then everything came flooding back to me. The whole reason why I was here.
"Where's Niall?" I gasped.
"We still haven't heard anything," Louis answered as if I was asking a stupid question. "It's hardly been over a minute since you passed out on us," he chuckled lightly.
"Oh," I breathed out, looking down at the glass of water I held firmly in my hand.
There was a gentle knock at the open door and my eyes shot back up to see a doctor standing in the doorway.
"Sorry to interrupt but is," he lifted a clipboard up to his face, "Louis Tomlinson here?"
"That's me," Louis walked over to shake hands with the man.
"I have you as the emergency contact for Niall Horan."
"That's correct," Louis nodded.
The doctor gestured for Louis to follow him out into the hall, his expression unreadable. As they stepped out I could still see Louis, nodding along as the doctor spoke.
"Are you alright?" Liam asked, "you're looking pale again maybe you should lay back down."
I ignored Liam and stood up as Louis started to near the room again.
"What happened? Is he okay? What did the doctor say?" words began to spill out of my mouth.
Louis closed the door behind him and turned to face me and Liam.
"He's okay," he smiled.
I breathed out in relief, which felt like the first proper breath I had taken in a long time.
"The knife missed anything that could do him any harm. And Zayn was caught at the scene and was taken by the police."
"When can we see him?" Liam asked excitedly.
"Right now actually."
I wasted no time and reached for the doorknob. Just as I was about to turn it a gentle hand grabbed my wrist. I turned and saw Louis looking at me sympathetically.
"Look Harry, maybe you shouldn't go right now. I mean he's been through a rough night and," he paused.
"He doesn't want to see me," I finished for him.
"We'll be back soon," Louis said gently as he and Liam left the room.
I nodded in disappointment and sat back down on the end of the bed. I couldn't blame Niall for not wanting to see me. I would hate me for what I did too. I looked up at the clock. It was now 7 in the morning. I watched the minutes pass by and soon enough Liam and Louis entered the room.
"How is he?" I asked softly.
"He's doing alright. He's only going to need to stay here a few more nights," Liam explained.
"What did he say to you?" I asked, hoping something about myself would come up.
"Not much really," Louis smiled, "he's a little drowsy. Fell asleep mid sentence."
"We should get something to eat," Liam rubbed his stomach, "I haven't eaten since last night. Let's go get something Lou,"
Louis' body stiffened at the nickname.
Liam didn't take notice and kept talking. "You should stay here Harry. Get some rest."
He walked out the door and Louis hesitantly followed him. I waited a few minutes to assure they had left before heading down the hall to Niall's room. Once I reached his room I cautiously opened the door and shut it behind me quietly.
I tiptoed over to the chair beside Niall's bed and sat down, holding his hand in mine. I gazed at him taking in every part of his face, thankful it was still here for me to look at. The gentle raise and fall of his chest, how his lips slightly parted, the soft snores coming from his mouth.
"Niall, I'm so, so sorry. I'm sorry I let you end up this way. I should've told you the real reason you couldn't tell Ed the truth. I'm supposed to protect you, I'm supposed to be honest with you," I whispered and tears began to drip down my cheeks, hitting the pale blue sheets of the hospital bed. "I'm just another one of those people who was dumb enough to hurt you. And I don't think I could ever apologize enough to you. I became exactly what I told you I wouldn't. And I know you may not ever forgive me, no matter how much I tell you I'm sorry. Nothing can undo what I've done. But I realized I need you Niall. Almost seeing a life without you is something I never want to feel again. And I know I made a mistake and it will be hard for you to trust me again but if you just-"
A gentle groan stopped my talking. Niall's eyes flickered open and stared back at me.
"Harry," he said horsely, wincing like it hurt his throat.
"Niall," I smiled, tears still staining my face.
"Why are you here?" he asked bluntly.
"Why? Because I saved you. Because I found you in the alley. Because I wanted to know if you're okay," my voice grew louder as I spoke. Why wouldn't I come to see him?
"I told you I never wanted to see you again," his tone grew harsh, "you don't need to take care of me I'm not your responsibility anymore."
I looked at him in shock as he tore his hand away from mine.
"But Niall I-I want to take care of you, I care about you. Believe me," I choked on my words.
"How am I supposed to believe you?" he hissed cooly, "I'm sick of having to ask you to leave me alone!" he shouted.
A whimper escaped my lips before I quickly ran from his room. I briskly walked out of the hospital into the crisp morning air. I headed to the nearest bus stop since I didn't take my car and I wasn't waiting for Louis to drive me home. All I knew was I needed to be as far away from here as possible.
