We burst through the hospital doors. Niall and I trailing behind Louis who was running as fast as his legs could take him. The feeling felt all too familiar. My heart pounding in my chest, everything else feeling numb, the uncertainty of what happened to Liam. Louis came to a sudden stop when a doctor stood in front of him. Niall and I halted behind him.

The doctor stood infront of a room with a crack in the door. The solemn look on his face gave me an eerie feeling that made my heart sink.

"Where is he?!" Louis wailed, tears uncontrollably streaming down his cheeks, "where's Liam?!"

The doctor grimaced "We tried everything possible."

No. Fuck no.

Louis' face grew pale and his breathing hitched.

"A truck hit him head on-"

Niall grabbed onto my hand, tightening his grip immediately.

"Please be okay. Please be okay," Niall whispered to himself.

"I'm sorry," the doctor bowed his head.

"No," Louis whimpered.

"But he was declared dead at the scene," the doctor finally spoke the dreaded words.

Liam was gone.

I reached out to squeeze Louis' hand and he immidiately pulled away.

"No! He's not supposed to be gone! He's supposed to be here with me!" Louis screamed hysterically.

"Louis," Niall's voice cracked as he tried to comfort Louis.

"I love him," Louis sobbed quietly, tugging me into a hug.

He sobbed into my shoulder, violently shaking, as my own tears streaked down my neck. I pulled Niall into the hug and we stayed there for a minute. We stayed in the middle of the hospital all clinging to eachother, crying. Louis balled together the fabric of my shirt in his fists, muffling his choking sobs as Niall rubbed his back.

"I love him," he repeated with a voice so small it was barely audible.

I heard the doctor clear his throat from behind us. Louis pulled away from me, leaving a wet tear stain on my shirt and wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his blazer.

"These are the belongings we found," he handed a small bag to Louis to took it in his shaky hand.

In the bag there was his cell phone, a small black box, and an envelope that managed to only get the slightest bit crumpled. The doctor gave us all a sympathetic look and retreated back into the hospital room. As the door opened I caught a glimpse of a blue sheet covering a body. I took it we wouldn't be allowed to see Liam one last time.

Louis stared at Liam's belongings, with his bottom lip still trembling.

"It says Louis," he said meekly.

"Huh?" Niall walked up beside me, clutching my hand once again.

"The envelope. It says my name," Louis picked up the paper and looked at it closely before opening it.

I watched Louis closely as he read the contents of the envelope. Tears immediately falling down his face. His breathing grew heavier as he read further and his tears kept flowing. Eventually he his eyes widened and he clapped a hand over his mouth. Louis dropped the letter on the ground and with trembling hands picked up the little black box. He opened it only a crack before letting out a loud sob and falling to his knees.

Back at Louis and Niall's house, Niall and I stayed with Louis in his room to make sure he'd be alright. Louis sat in his bed as Niall and I sat on the floor at the foot of the bed. It was almost 2am and Louis hadn't slept a wink. We finally heard him let out a loud yawn.
